With syllabus week a distant memory in the past and real class work taking over everyone's free time, it's time to acknowledge what actually occurs during that MWF 8:30 lecture. You know what I mean. You take a brief second to glance up from your laptop or notebook and you see it, Jessica who sits in the front row is online shopping. Matt is catching up on Game of Thrones. You're probably reading your horoscope of the week.

Sure, we actually get work done and learn a few things too, but more often than not you see college kids do anything but what they are supposed to be doing during class. Here are 15 things every college kid does in the classroom besides learn.

1. Online Shop

Urban's having a sale? You ~need~ a new phone case? You just really want a new pair of steve madden slip ons? Chances are, you'll see more than one student online shopping during class.

2. Text

The beauty of a laptop is being able to keep up with the group chat, catch up with your mom, or text your BFF about that boy you saw on campus all while it looks like you may be taking notes.

3. Do homework for another class

Sometimes you have a class right after that you completely forgot to do the homework for or an exam later that you have to review your notes for. We really do get work done in class, I swear.

4. Watch Netflix

Gilmore Girls is good at any and all times and usually is way more interesting than French at 8:30 in the morning.

5. Stare at cute boys

There are some classes I look forward to strictly for the sole purpose of staring at the back of some boy's head.

6. Day dream

We all do it, no explanation necessary.

7. Think of what outfit you're gonna wear that weekend

Especially if it's a Friday class, you have to start planning your outfit out in advance so you can try it on later and get the seal of approval from your roommate.

8. Eat

College kids are never on a normal schedule with eating due to weird sleep cycles and weird class times. I eat breakfast and or lunch in way too many of my classes.

9. Read your horoscope

Cosmo's weekly horoscopes are real, okay.

10. Scroll through social media

Too many times I watch people fall into the black hole of facebook, twitter or Instagram during class. Only the sound of class ending can pull them out.

11. Watch Tasty videos

If you forgot to bring food to class, watching these videos are the next best thing. Plus then you can pretend you're an adult and have your life together and will make these foods one day too. You're still learning something!

12. Take a Buzzfeed quiz

Sometimes finding out at what age you'll get married based off of your Netflix preferences or least favorite food is important.

13. Stalk your ex's ex's ex on Instagram and accidentally almost like their picture from 75 weeks ago

I don't know how people get here, but people get here. It's an issue.

14. Watch videos of dogs and soldiers reuniting and try not to cry in the middle of a lecture

I've definitely seen girls start to tear up during a class because of this. I'm not kidding.

15. Catch up on the latest celebrity drama, probably something related to Taylor Swift and her feuds

It's kinda like history...right?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
