It's almost one of the most important times in America again; if you're at least 18-years old or will be by November, you know why. It's time to talk about politics. Not just any kind of politics, I'm talking about the kind that involves the election. So why is an article about Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, and the others so important? Because it holds the future of American society in our hands. President Obama will only be president for a little over 7 more months. Before we know it, we'll have a new President that will "make America great again" or actually improve our country. So how do we make a good decision?
Though it is important to learn values, ideals, and principles of the candidates, it is just as important to know why politics are important as well. First, it will allow you to discover what matters most to you and how it influences the country as a whole. Some people probably just vote for the candidate that has similar values or seems like they'll do the best job at leading our country. But we forget that it's a big deal trying to govern so many people who live in 50 states. Not to mention our economy, foreign affairs, and more influences also play a role in society.
Donald Trump, for instance, wants to build a wall to keep out the Mexicans. His supporters believe that it's a good idea because "the Mexicans are stealing our jobs." But how is that helpful? Of course, there are many who do indeed have intentions of coming here illegally, but many also have hopes of getting the American Dream and getting a better life for themselves and their families.
Another important part of politics is considering that our economy is not great at all. When we look at other industrialized countries, we notice that America is in a lot of debt. What we need is someone who has plans that will eventually improve our financial debt.
Take Hillary for example. She participated in Wall Street occupations and has given us proof of everything she has done to boost the economy. It does not necessarily mean that it will be efficient, but it's a step in the direction that some voters are searching for.
The last point is to find someone who will be great with the public. In my personal opinion, Bernie Sanders exhibits this trait. His charisma and attraction in the crowds is a clear example of popularity. It is important for any president to be aware of current issues presented in the country and, rather than sticking to his or her own opinion, it is best to listen to those of the followers.
American politics are essentially the race to see who will win the most important competition of the country. Finding the right president is no easy job, especially when not everyone wants the same person. Yet. it is important to remember that this person will be in charge of the United States approximately the next four years. Don't vote for someone you just like, and definitely please vote! Every opinion and vote counts.
