Originally, I was going to write about this political nightmare our country is currently in. But, last minute, I changed my mind. Rather than talk about how our country is, I’d rather share my opinion of how it should be.
For starters, I’d like to say that I realize many would view my opinion as extremely biased and insensitive. I’m going to express my thoughts anyway and whether or not you choose to agree is up to you. Now, I for one think nothing would be better for this country than to revert back to a strong Christian way of running the government. When I say this, I do not mean that America should become a theocracy. I simply mean that this country was founded on things being done in way that would please God, a being who is all good. Our laws, in turn, were made to be all good, not only good for some or for the rich or parasitic.
I believe that God should be a part of everyone’s life, and when decisions are made He should be brought into consideration. If we could combine the God-fearing ways of the past with the moral sensibilities of today, we would have something very close to utopia. While it's true that in today’s world, things that used to be acceptable such as torture, racism, slavery, child labor, and violence are no longer remotely tolerated, our world also has its own new problems such as not wanting to offend anyone, hostility towards major religions such as Islam and Christianity, and the list goes on and on.
People like Hillary Clinton want America to become the world’s stepdad, trying desperately to make the rest of the world happy and to like him, even if that means being okay with every bad thing the rest of the world does. On the other hand, we have people like Donald Trump who want to reestablish American isolationism, reverting to a mentality that the rest of the world is scary and violent and we have to either kill them or keep them away from us. I wish so badly that a presidential candidate who was an open Christian and embodied the best parts of America rather than the worst would run. Unfortunately, leaders of our great country cannot have religious beliefs without being labeled bigoted idiots and being equated to radical Muslim terrorists, as they apparently do out of their belief in God. When we have millionaires refusing to respect the national anthem, parents prohibiting their kids from reciting, or even witnessing, the Pledge of Allegiance, and people having the nerve to protest at the funerals of fallen soldiers, it is very evident that we have become a Godless country. And everyone, even those who contribute to the problems, suffers for it.
All I can say is this: God help this country, and though us help the world. We all badly need help, guidance, and wisdom. Unfortunately, neither candidate this year has any of that to offer.
