The Last Week: Hillary, Trump and North Dakota
Maxwell Silver

We're counting down until the election, and it seems things are only getting more interesting as the days go by. In a week we'll be voting for our next president, and seemingly major events are coming up left and right. With the outcome still looking so uncertain, anything new surfacing may make up the difference on either side. With the Democrats; Hillary's FBI investigation has re-opened, and on the Republican side; Trump flirts with the idea of contesting the election results if he loses. Then there's the issue that has ties to both candidacies; the No DAPL protest becoming increasingly militarized, and there's still no mainstream coverage.

A recent discovery in the Anthony Weiner case has re-opened Hillary's FBI investigation, much to the joy of her opponents. Apparently, there's information that qualifies as "pertinent" to the case, which means... I'm not sure. It's not clear what is in the recently discovered emails, or why they were noted as important, but it doesn't look like it's going to lead to any charges for Clinton. That hasn't stopped many from declaring it as a death-blow to her campaign, especially since we're so close to election day. We can only wait and see at this point, but there's doubt we'll hear or see anything until after the election.

Speaking of death-blows, Donald Trump has decided to literally kill Democracy if he loses this election. OK, that's an exaggeration. He said he will, "...totally accept the election results... if I win," which seems to imply he won't if he loses. Now, he of course refuses to comment further on his statement, so we can only assume he's planning on staging a coup with a highly trained para-military organization. No, really, we have no idea what his statement means, but what's actually concerning is the militant right that Trump has been inflaming throughout his campaign. They are more open to the idea of "taking the country back" and they aren't talking about reform. If anything, this will lead to an angry tweet if Trump loses, because it's fair if he wins, and it's rigged if he loses.

Before we can start a civil war over election results though, there's already the domestic war happening on native land. The No DAPL protest has been going on for quite a while now, and there has still been no response from either party. This lack of response, along with the mainstream media's absolute lack of coverage, has made this problem a non-issue in the election. The fact is, this has been a historic protest of unprecedented size and scope, and our country's police response has been borderline war-crime worthy. Considering the pipeline moves through indigenous territory, the police have been acting as a pseudo-military force in their protection of private interest. What started as a hired group of private security has turned into a police force pulling reinforcements and equipment from neighboring states. It's unclear what will happen next, with strip-searches, silencing of media, sound cannons, tear gas and bean-bag guns already occurring, further escalation looks grim.

So, one candidate is going to be arrested, the other is bringing fascism back into fashion, and we've got some classic native land desecration thrown in for good measure. Honestly, Hillary's newly opened case won't lead to anything, and Trump's vague notion of denying possible election is clearly a bluff, but the current state of things still stands. It's been an exciting election cycle, to say the least, and with one week left, things may finally calm down... but probably not.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
