When it comes to the fall season, we notice the differences of our surroundings such as the leaves changing to shades of red, orange, yellow, or brown. If you live in the southwest, the only sign that it is fall is that we fall below triple digit degree weather (FINALLY!). But one thing remains universal within the United States: dozens of companies bring out fall exclusive products such as pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin spice foods, and even pumpkin spice deodorant. It's no big surprise that America has grown to have an obsession with all things pumpkin spice, but did you know that there are other fall flavors that don't come from this seasonal squash? Here are a few flavors of autumn that anyone could try out to catch a break from pumpkins.
Pralines

These sweetened nuts are known as pralines, which can be any variety of nuts that are caramelized to give that fall taste. While there's been a small rise of pralines recently, these treats have been a classic snack from hundreds of years ago. Pralines are the perfect snack on the go when you don't have the time to pick up a pumpkin spice latte at the coffee shop.
Apple Cider
Another fall flavor classic which can roll over into the winter season. Apple cider has been around all season, but it's at its peak during the fall. You cannot help but enjoy a cup of hot apple cider with a small hint of cinnamon on a cold day. Or even some chilled apple cider during a social gathering with your closest friends!
Salted Caramel
I've known people that love salted caramel or just hate it, so this is an acquired taste of sweet and salty. Whenever I think salted caramel, I think about feeling warm and cozy on a lazy day. I also think about drinking a strong salted caramel mocha that will keep me up during finals.
Sweet Potatoes
Michelle Obama's favorite fall vegetable is none other than the sweet potato! These yams are a good alternative to pumpkins and likely healthier since they're naturally sweet. However, a little or a lot of brown sugar and marshmallows wouldn't hurt. While sweet potatoes are around year round, much like apples, these vegetables peak during the fall.
Pears
If the previous fall foods are a little too much for your sweet tooth, pears are a healthy option for a snack. Either you roast them in the oven or slice it as it is, these pairs of fruit are an alternative to those pumpkin spice Oreos. While the texture can be weird to some, pears can be served with different spices if you want to give them that autumn flare.
Whether you aren't fond of pumpkin spice or want to find an alternative, there will always be other options for fall snacks and flavors that go beyond cinnamon and squash. There's plenty to look forward to especially once the winter season has arrived after Thanksgiving!
