I Am White, and I'm Not Sorry

I absolutely refuse to apologize for the color of my skin.

As a white, bisexual woman in society, I support things like Black Lives Matter, LGBT rights, Women's rights and many others.

I follow a lot of liberalized pages on my personal Facebook and lately have been seeing some posts that are fairly upsetting.

A lot of the posts I see say things along the lines of, “You have white privilege, so you're a bad person.”

“White people cause all of America’s problems”

“Whites are terrorists, etc.”

A lot of these posts are coming from people who support BLM, are appalled by the Muslim ban, want everyone to love each other and speak against prejudice--but these posts sound pretty prejudice to me.

The fact of the matter is that, no, not all whites are terrible fascists that want to kill everyone.

Profiling us as such is no different than profiling all Muslims as terrorists. It is inaccurate, racist and very close-minded.

I am white. I have no choice over the color of my skin, much like you don’t.

I am white, and I will not apologize for it.

I will not and cannot apologize for my ancestors because I am not them.

I won't oppress you. I will not savagely beat you. I won't possess you.

My favorite saying is, “I never owned slaves, and you've never picked cotton.”

Don't hate me and my entire race just because of a few radicals-- now, doesn't that sound familiar?

Do not tell me you're a peace activist if you say things like this.

Do not tell me you're not racist.

Do not tell me you're accepting.

Most importantly, don't tell me you're a liberal.

Liberals love everyone and want equal opportunities--for everyone.

People like you are where the misconceived ideas of liberals’ beliefs come from.

That is not who we are.

As a white woman in today's age, I promise to love every race, to help when I can and try my best to bring everyone together, instead of tearing them apart.

I am white, and I am not sorry.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
