I am scared.
I am absolutely terrified for the future of the United States. Donald Trump has won the 2016 Presidential Election. A man with no experience has just won over a woman that has been in the political field for most of her life. A man that will openly say things that I don’t even feel comfortable repeating and have no remorse for won.
This was one of the biggest and most horrifying elections in the history of the United States. There are people out there who already fear for their safety because of their race or religion. Now, they don’t even want to leave their homes. Muslims are choosing not the wear their Hijabs out of fear for what may happen to them. People who have immigrated to this country and built a life for themselves and their families are now questioning whether it was worth it. Same-sex couples are afraid that their legitimacy and rights of marriage will be revoked. The majority of this country is in fear.
I view Donald Trump as a loose cannon. Since he won the Republican nomination, I have been in fear of what could happen to this country as a whole from outside of it. Trump has not held back his feelings of other nations, and those nations have not taken it lightly. He has said, on multiple occasions, that ultimately dropping bombs is going to solve many of our problems. This scares me because we don’t know what other countries are capable of. We don’t really know what kinds of weapons other nations have and how far they are willing to go. I am afraid of other countries doing what Trump said he wants to do.
I believe that the world is on the cusp of World War III. I have felt this way long before Trump even launched his campaign. But now? Now I think this war is right around the corner. Our country has been at war for 222 out of the 239 years that it has been a nation. Let that sink in. Almost 93 percent of its history. That number is astonishing. Even at that, the number is going to rise, and rise quickly.
I never agreed with his “Make America Great Again.” To me, that is a leader of a country degrading it. We all know that our country has its fair share of problems, but that doesn’t mean it’s not great. The United States was founded on freedom. It is really only recently that freedom has really been freedom. Our nation has made an extraordinary amount of progress. Has that progress made it less great? Has making our people happy and inspiring other nations made America less great? Has the economic rise, better national security, and happier citizens made America less great?
Donald Trump won the Presidential election of 2016.
This is how it is and is going to be for the next four years. Now is when we need to voice our opinions and make sure that they are heard.
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
Now is when we need to stand together. This country cannot be divided by these results. Stand strong, honor your flag, and hope for the best.
I am not a Trump supporter, but I love my country. I hope the rest of the country is willing to stand their ground and make their voices heard, even if he doesn't want to hear them.
This is our country, not his.
