Lady Gaga came into the lime light when I was 12. This was when she was known for her extravagant outfits and interesting music videos. I was originally drawn to this artist because I liked her methods of self expression as well how her songs were so easy to sing along with.

As I noticed back then, not everyone fell into this “Lady Gaga Trance” as I did. They were turned off by everything I admired about her, which was a shame in my eyes. However, as time has gone on those people have come to like the wonderful artist that is Lady Gaga for numerous reasons. As I noticed this recent change, I began to understand how long of a road she’s endured as an artist and how much she’s grown with her work–-which is truly admirable.

What people don’t realize is that each and every one of us is weird within our own boundaries. While some people aren’t comfortable with themselves enough to truly and fully express themes, Lady Gaga always has been which is something I will always admire about her. It doesn’t matter if it’s a lyric in her song, a music video or a red carpet look. She is so confident in herself, and at 12 years old, that was something I aspired to be. Now, those around you don’t always recognize that amazing aspect about this artist, so when you say your idol is Lady Gaga, you were bound to get some looks. However, that was just one step on the road of being just as comfortable in my own skin as Lady Gaga is.

As of late, Lady Gaga has been showing her talent in older ranges of music from her album with Tony Bennet. This is not just showing an older audience her talents, but encouraging her younger audience to indulge themselves in a new culture. After this, her 2015 Grammy performance of the Sound of Music and her chilling performance of the National Anthem at Super Bowl 50 have woken people up to how amazing she is. While I understand the fact that some people just don’t like her provocative lyrics and so on, it still makes me happy to hear that they’re acknowledging her talents.

To me, Lady Gaga is a lot more than an artist, she is truly one of my idols. This woman has been through so much, and she has given so much. From the start, Lady Gaga has always been abut the fans. Teenagers in our generation have this mindset that they aren’t good enough, and in every concert video I’ve watched I’ve seen her stop and speak to try to encourage any of those going through a trying time. Some of her fans are LGBTQ and she truly has worked to show her love and support for any of those that don’t feel accepted as who they are. It’s truly inspiring. She doesn’t just sit and wallow in her fame, she goes out and uses it for a higher purpose. Last year she released a song called "Til it Happens to You" about sexual assault on college campuses, what we can do to fix it and to help those who have been affected by such horrible incidents.

As mentioned, Lady Gaga’s determination, confidence and compassion have always been admirable to me. Without her influence in my life, I genuinely do not believe that I’d be as in tune with myself that I am today. This means that I have a lot to thank Lady Gaga for. Having self-confidence is truly the best way to progress in life and it all started with me proudly saying she is an idol of mine. Through her development, I’ve always been there cheering her on and with all of her amazing accomplishments I couldn’t be any prouder calling myself a ‘Little Monster’. As Lady Gaga continues on her musical and acting journey, I can’t wait to see what she’ll continue to shock the world with. Keep shining ‘Mother Monster’! Paws up!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
