I’m sure we are all aware that the time is changing, ticking clocks and the rising sun are very good indicators of that; however, innovations are always improving and coming about, making our lives “easier;” things we could never live without. Because this lap top which I am typing on became a necessity when I came to school, but what else would I use it for if people thought of me to be “just a fool.” Some things are necessary for some people’s lives while other things just seem silly — the things some people buy.
Where would we really be without technology? I really cannot say… We wouldn’t be able to save people’s lives every day. We also wouldn’t be harming those lives with the dependency we are creating in them. We have grown so accustomed to having a screen in front of our eyes that we no longer pay attention to the valuable knowledge we can learn and observe right outside. We are always distracted, never content with nothing at nothing or even with everything at our fingertips; the phone always right at our side. Even some gas stations have screen to keep us occupied while filling our cars with gas. “Life in the fast lane,” is what my grandpa always says, but what happened to stopping to smell the roses or even just stopping to catch your breath? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this is everyone; I know plenty of people how regularly unplug and leave all technology for some time every day. There are still people who enjoy taking hikes and runs through the woods to have fun. But technology is still ruining us by constricting our tongues. We no longer speak with others who are sitting around us, but why should we when we don’t have to waste our breath to communicate with someone in another land.
Technology has created this sense of social anxiety where people can no longer verbally communicate without feeling wrong. It is no longer widely accepted to spark up conversation with a person unknown. When we can no longer relate to another person just because they are a person, we have lost. We have lost ourselves to the mini computers in our pockets because with that small box, we feel most at home.
