I was taught by not only my parents but by my church that you should love everyone equally and to never look down upon someone who is different from yourself.
I will never be able to wrap my head around someone despising another person based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation etc.
It makes me sick at the thought of being hateful to an individual for appearing differently than myself. You know the phrase your parents overused; “never judge a book by its cover,” well now more than ever is the time we should be applying that phrase.
Our country has gone through so much turmoil the past year with attacks on our country and attacks on each other. We need to join as one again and show why we are the greatest country there is.
We need to start replacing the anger and sorrow with love and kindness. This has presented itself as a grueling task for some individuals but it is never too late to have a change of heart.
A simple smile or compliment can illuminate someone's day in an instant. It's much easier to be a good person than to hold a grudge.
Tim Mcgraw said it best; "Don't hold a grudge or a chip and here's why: Bitterness keeps you from flyin'. Always stay humble and kind." Always be humble and kind to everyone you meet, you never know what battle someone is fighting.
“Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world." -Desmond Tutu
I have hope, hope that our true colors will show and hope that we will all join together again as the great nation we are.
