I'm sure the title is enough to make someone somewhere very unhappy. It seems that in light of all the social and political issues taking place, no one is really allowed to have an opinion anymore. Then, naturally, there is going to be an uproar of people who are angry that I would dare say we can't have an opinion, but that's shaming me for my opinion of everyone not being allowed to have an opinion. Confused yet? I know I am. Whether people want to admit it or not, and despite how much everyone constantly says you’re entitled to your own opinions and beliefs, what they really mean is this.
In a world where everything just seems to be falling apart for one reason or another, people are being forced to take sides or be criticized. Why is it when someone decides to not take a stance, they hate whatever community or issue is in question? Why is it when someone is against a certain issue, they're a hater? They're intolerant, or narrow minded, or a disgrace? Why is that? We spend so much time promoting individual freedom or opinion and belief, but then we turn around and scold anyone who doesn't agree with the mass majority.
If a Christian states they're against gay marriage because of their beliefs, then we should support their decision and be proud that they stand by that belief. However, people point their fingers at the Christian community and make fun of them. Calling them haters and narrow minded idiots who hate gay people. Where did that come from? What happen to freedom of religion? When someone says they are against abortion, like myself, people are disgusted and demand to know why you won't allow a woman to have rights to her own body. You're forced to explain yourself only to be shot down while being accused of hating women! People can't disagree with the general public without being one of two extremes!
If you're for an issue, then good for you, welcome to the community. Heaven forbid you think differently from most people. The moment you state your unpopular opinion about anything, people assume you hate everyone a part of that community! Why?
If you like cops, you hate the black community. If you stand with BlackLivesMatter, then you must hate cops! If you say you stand with AllLivesMatter, you're racist. If you don't stand with anyone, then you don't care, and that's frowned upon. If you support guns, you're a maniac who wants to kill people. If you don't support guns, you believe in taking away basic human rights! If you're a Republican, God have mercy on your soul. If you're a Democrat, you have no morals.
You know what, it's not even a matter of unpopular opinions anymore; it's a matter of having any opinion at all! No matter what you choose, you're wrong! No matter what you believe, you're wrong! In a country so focused on allowing people of all races and sexualities and religions, we are sure keen on shooting everyone down for what they believe, no matter what it is. In some cases, you can agree with the mass majority and be fine, but then people assume you dedicate your life to the cause. Disagree and a lot of people start ignoring you or judging you based on that opinion alone.
As we live in a country that really needs to get it together, can we all just take a moment to calm down! Take a breath, respect other people and quit taking everything to the extremes? Most unpopular opinion of the year: we like conflict and will do anything to keep it around. We will take every small thing and turn it into World War III just because we love the conflict. That's my opinion, what's yours?
