This is a response to the article, "Things Democrats Should Be Thankful For."
I'm not sure if I should agree or be disappointed by the idea that Planned Parenthood "only" got defunded for a year or that American is "already" a year into Trump's four-year term. But in the same light, here is all I, a Democrat, want for Christmas.
1. Joe Biden announcing his presidential campaign for 2020.
I mean, he is basically the face of the Democratic party, at this point. With Obama's full, unequivocal endorsement, he would literally wipe the floor with any candidate, regardless of a number of reality TV shows or failed real estate investments.
2. Healthcare for all Americans.
Obamacare was the first step to a society where people did not have to worry about getting sick, they could just go to the freakin' doctor. Trump(doesn't)care is like a big lump of coal in a huge stocking that is labeled "The Disappointment of 2017."
3. Title IX amendments to be left alone.
Obama and Biden's "It's On US" campaign was awesome, but only the first step. Betsy DeVos sympathizing with rapists and requesting that assailants be given enough time to fulling recuperate is ridiculous and offensive. In fact, make number three just to get rid of DeVos. She is not a good Secretary of Education.
4. For all feminism to be intersectional.
Because let's face it, if it isn't intersectional, which means beneficial to all races, sexualities, and genders, then it isn't really feminism.
5. Separation of Church and State
I know, this one sounds silly. This was under the tree like over a hundred years ago? Yeah, well, apparently ours got lost or broken. We're gonna need to ask for it again. It's no longer a given.
7. For America to realize that Nazis are bad people, regardless of temperament.
I don't care if you donate to your local Salvation Army, or have awesome kids who are captains of the volleyball team two years running. You're a Nazi, therefore you are a bad person. Again, not something you'd think we would need to ask for again, but here we are.
8. For black people to stop being shot in the streets while police go free, unindicted.
This one is kind of self-explanatory.
9. For people to stop equating Islam with ISIS.
That would be like equating Christianity with the KKK. It's not really right.
10. Decriminalizing low-level drug crimes, like possession of marijuana.
Face it: it's racist and is causing major problems in the justice system, like overcrowding.
