All Things Back to School for College Sophomores

Heyyyo. It is almost time for college to start back. Well, it is around three weeks until club meetings, homework and dare I say preparation for tailgates is underway. Your first college summer is almost over!! I hope it was filled with sunshine, late nights, friends and pure joy. So, since summer is simmering down, and it is time to prepare for school. Here are my top 6 things you should do to get ready for your Sophomore year!

1. OUT OF THAT DORM, finally

We all know the dorms are overrated and moving out of them after your last final was way less fun than moving into them. Also, you are living in your very first apartment or house. Therefore, make an excel of all the things you need for your apartment, even if you already own them, you highlight as you go. For example, in my excel sheet, I highlighted the things I have in blue and continue to update it when I order or go buy. You can also, chose a highlight color if your roommates are bringing it, so you know that you don't have to.

2.SORORITY TEA TIME

IF school is about to start, then sorority recruitment is so close you can probably smell it. Considering, this will be your first ever recruitment process on the other end of things. It is going to be crazy, but we are going to get through this. Make sure you are planning your pre-rush, rush and Bid Day outfits, so they can be approved, and you know you are all set for spending the next two weeks at the house you love so much.

3.CLASS SCHEDULE

It is never too late (until five days after class starts) to change your schedule. Therefore, we all know that advisors aren't the best on keeping you on the right track. So, go over your Capp Compliance and make sure your schedule is perfect and on track to graduate. Also, if you decided to change your major during the summer then go ahead and make sure your new schedule will fit your new major and change your major a couple of days after school starts.

4.FRIENDS

Yesss, you have dreadfully been away from your long-distance college friends all summer, so go ahead a message them (I am sure you already probably have) and make sure they don't need help moving in or exchange schedules to see if you have any classes together. If not, there is nothing wrong with going out on the first day during Syllabus week!

5. SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Yeah, usually in college all you need is a notebook, book, or computer. Therefore, make sure you have everything ready to go to start the year, that way when school starts back you do not have to worry about getting organized and just have fun the first couple of days.

6.GROCERIES

Yes go out and get your groceries before school starts, just like with the school supplies, freshman and their parents will be crowding the whole perimeter of the college town and all stores around it "trying to make sure they have everything". We have all been there, just try not to get trapped and go grocery shopping in advanced to beat the freshman crowd.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
