A Thankful Letter To My Squad
The Huffington Post

From 3 AM Whataburger runs, to long nights in a study room, there is no way I could have survived my freshman year without any of you. I want to thank each and every one of you for the important role you have played in my life so far, and how blessed I am to have friends who feel like home. Although it took half a semester for us to find eachother, I have almost forgotten what days without the endless group texts were like.

We are all so different and come from diverse backgrounds, yet I know I could count on every single one of you in a crisis and in fact, I have. I am so grateful for our meaningful friendship, and how we rely on each other's encouragement and comfort in every aspect of our lives. While our opinions are so different, and we argue about meaningless things (like which genre of music is better), and although I definitely think that Country music is the best, I will put my feelings aside and say that I miss y'all.

Going from spending every day (and literally planning our schedules so that we can see each other), to now only Face-timing and texting is so hard. But, this distance has shown me how appreciative and thankful I am towards our six group friendship. I want to individually thank you (but that would take forever), so here are three things I am most grateful for:

1. You have helped me pick out an outfit more than once.

This seems so simple. But for a girl like me, it means the world. I am scatterbrained, unorganized, and so indecisive that I will spend hours looking for an outfit, only to take it off five minutes later. So when I snap a picture of what I am wearing, you will let me know (by the number of heart eyes) if it is acceptable to wear, and for that I am thankful.

2. You have always been so honest; even when it could hurt me.

Honesty is one of my most important traits when looking for any kind of friendship/relationship. I could never thank y'all enough for your honesty in menial conversations to telling me the hard truth when you know how fragile my feelings are. What makes this so special is that although you might be hurting me, you allow me to cry on your shoulder and console me till your shirt is soaking wet from tears.

3. You have my back.

One text is all it takes to have each of you busting down doors and searching for the girl who looked at me funny.

I am so blessed by these things (AND SO MUCH MORE!!) because no matter what, y'all will love me, protect me, and encourage me in every aspect of my life. I am amazed how close we have become in one year, and I cannot wait for the many more volleyball/soccer/tennis games, food outings, and laughs in the years ahead of us.

So lastly, thank you. Thank you for being my "squad," my home away from home, my life counselors, but most importantly my best friends.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
