Albums For Your Music Library: Fall 2015

Fall is my absolute favorite season for many reasons. I always get excited for the changing leaves, the crisp fall air, the food and clothes, but also the music. A lot of the time, artists release new albums in the fall, which I think is perfect timing for back to school. I love making new playlists for studying and driving and just hanging out. Recently I've been compiling a list of new artists I want to listen to as well as some favorites who I always gravitate towards. My list is still growing, but I'm really excited about the albums that I've found so far.

Beirut // No No No

I first discovered Beirut in 2011, and was pleasantly surprised by their unique sound. Front-man Zach Condon is originally from New Mexico, and the music he and the band makes is very indie, but has a flair that combines sounds from different cultures. Two of my favorite songs are from the band are Goshen and Sante Fe. The two songs that are already released off their new album, No No No and Gibraltar, have the same flair and style, but are still different enough to make you interested in the other songs to come. Album release: September 11th, 2015.

Jess Glynne // I Cry When I Laugh

Jess Glynne's voice caught my attention after I heard it on the song Rather Be by Clean Bandit. I had that song on repeat for a pretty long time, partly because the song was so catchy, but also I think Jess's voice is so unique and pretty. A couple months ago I found out she was releasing her debut album, and immediately added her song Hold My Hand to my most recent playlist. It has almost a Disco vibe to it, and you can't help but dance at least a little when you listen to it. It definitely will be a fun Pop album to put on when your hanging out with friends or taking a long drive in the car. Her album was released in the UK earlier this month, but I have a feeling once it hits the U.S., people will love what they hear. Album release: September 11th, 2015.

Robert DeLong // In the Cards

One thing I love about music is how easily it can bring people together, and give people something to talk about. I love giving music suggestions to my friends, and hearing about their new discoveries too. A couple years ago my friend introduced me to Robert DeLong, and I was automatically hooked. I later went to one of his concerts, and it amazing to see the sounds that he creates all by himself onstage. I keep Global Concepts and Here on most of my playlists. They're just fun songs to listen to. Album release: September 18th, 2015.

Disclosure // Caracal

If you don't know the song Latch ft. Sam Smith by now, then you've been living under a rock for the last couple years. The song was a major hit for Disclosure, among other songs on their debut album Settle. The two brothers that make up this electronic band have created great party and dance songs as well as songs that you can take a study break for. They brought back Sam Smith and his amazing voice for their new song Omen, but it's very different from their first big hit with the soulful singer. Disclosure has a distinct style that shows through in the song, but it's a little darker. I can't wait to see what else they have created. Album release: September 25th, 2015.

City and Colour // If I Should Go Before You

I honestly kind of forgot about City and Colour, and rediscovered the talented singer-songwriter recently going through some music on my computer. Dallas Green's voice along with his music is very refreshing, and perfect for those cold fall days. I can't wait to curl up with a book and listen to the new album. He puts a little country and folk into his soft, relaxing indie songs. Add a little Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes into the mix, and you have a pretty awesome fall playlist. Album release: October 9th, 2015.

BORNS // Dopamine

Out of all the artists and bands I've mentioned, I think I'm most excited for this one. I first heard his song Electric Love last fall, and since then I've had to have every song he's released. Garrett Borns has such a distinct voice. At first, I thought I was listening to a girl, and he often jokes about that tone in his voice. However, I think that it makes him stand out that much more. While a lot of his songs, such as The Emotion, remind me of summer and laying on the beach, I'm really happy that his debut album is coming out in the fall. There'es always one or two albums that just stick with me throughout the year. Walk the Moon's second album Talking is Hard was that album for me this past year. I have a feeling that this album will stay with me for a long time. Album release: October 16th, 2015.

Pentatonix

This one is the most recent news to me. Pentatonix is one of my favorite groups. If you don't know about them yet, look them up right now. They completely changed the face of Acapella music. I've been following them since they won The Sing Off, an Acapella competition show. For having only five members, they create huge sound. Each person has a distinct, amazing voice, and they mesh so well all together. A lot of their music consists of covers, but with their second album, they gave fans more medleys and more original songs. If you have the chance to see them live, do it. You wouldn't even think that they were using just their voices for how much sound they have. Album release: October 16, 2015.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
