When After Rush Exhaustion Hits You

All I want to do is sleep.

When After Rush Exhaustion Hits You
Eric Mueller

Rush was last week; and no matter if you were already in a sorority or were trying to find a sorority to call home, it was a busy week. Of course it was all worth it- the laughs, the tears, and most of all welcoming all the new members with open arms. However, the initial excitement is wearing off and you're realizing all those responsibilities you put off last week are coming back to haunt you this week. The after rush exhaustion has hit, and you realize several things all at once.

1. All I Want To Do Is Sleep.

You quickly realize that the adrenaline you were running on the past week is completely gone and the lack of sleep is catching up to you. You're fighting to not drift off in class and naps are the only thing keeping you sane.

2. Where Did All This Homework Come From?

Whoops! So, you might have missed one or two ( or maybe all) of your assignments. You now realize you're playing catch up in all of your classes. So much for all the sleep you really need.

3. Where Did My Voice Go?

Oh wait... maybe it's gone from all the excited screaming I did yesterday. It was totally worth it though.

4. What Do I Do With All This Time I Have?

Wait a Second. What time? All the time you spent during rush is now spent catching up on your homework and any other responsibilities you might have.

5. I Don't Remember The Last Time I Talked To Someone Outside of Greek Life.

Hello Mom or friend from back home. It's nice to actually be able to call you again. I called to tell you I'm alive in case you were concerned.

6. Who Got Me Sick?

Just about everyone I know has a cold. Being in one room with a hundred or more people everyday means that if one person gets sick you all get sick.

7. I Might Have Forgotten About Laundry.

Laundry is just another thing you didn't have time for last week. Unfortunately, neither did anyone else and it's an all out war for the washing machines.

8. I Also Might Have Forgotten to Clean My Room

The trash cans are overflowing and clothes, shoes, and who knows what else litters the floor. It's not your fault, you had no time. You barely had time to take a shower.

9. How Am I Ever Going To Catch Back Up.

No need to fret. It might take a week and some serious dedication to your studies, but things will get back to normal. Take deep breaths and drink plenty of coffee.

10. It Was Worth It

Despite how crazy this next week might be as you struggle to get back to a normal schedule, it was completely worth it. You would do it all over again to get to have these awesome new sisters by your side.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
