You've set so many goals for yourself in life. Little ones like getting above an 85 on that test or getting this much of your room cleaned out. And there have been bigger ones, like actually going on that tour of Europe you planned two years ago or becoming a film director. It’s hard to see where you will be five, 10, even 25 years in the future. Will you have a degree to match your current major? Will you finally quit saying you’ll never get married and decide to settle down? Will you finally have that car you’ve wanted forever? All that I want for you is to at least be happy with what you’ve achieved. No matter what it is you'll end up doing, you'll always have questions. It doesn’t matter if you read this tomorrow or don’t look at it for the next seven years, these little tips are relevant no matter what age you are.
Life is too short to waste time hating people
Learn to forgive. And even forget if you have to. Who cares what that person did? Definitely not you. You need to remember that not everyone who meets you is going to like you, and you’re not going to like everyone you meet. Get over it. Be cordial with everyone no matter what you think of them. It will get you further in life.
Don’t compare your life to someone else’s
We all lead different lives. We all have different paths and are not all going to the same destination. Don’t worry if you don’t have all the things your friend does. And don’t rub it in someone else’s face if you have something they don’t. Life has a way of giving people what they deserve, whether it be good or bad.
Drink water
This is important. Past you didn’t do that too often. Instead of drinking that soda, grab a glass of water instead. Believe me or not, it will give you clear skin and can give you a brain and energy boost better than coffee can. It’s a lot healthier and your body will appreciate it more. You’ll thank yourself when you’re older.
Keep your sense of humor
If people think you’re funny, it’s a compliment. You were always the funny one when you were younger. Though your humor was sometimes put to use in awkward or tense situations with your friends, it was appreciated. A lot of people are too stiff nowadays. Keep your humor, make people laugh. It’s good for you.
Age is just a number
Seriously, science says so. Your age tells you how many years you’ve been around, but your life is so much more than that. Go out and do things. Go see that kids movie that’s in theaters. Remember how alive you felt when you were 20? You were doing fun and crazy things all the time! Don’t let how old you are set you back from living.
Accept rejection
Rejection is bound to happen. That boy didn’t call, you didn’t get that job – you’re not the first person and you definitely won’t be the last. It doesn’t mean you failed, it just means you get another chance. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again.
Travel
Don’t let anything hold you back from traveling. If you’ve got a three-day weekend, take a trip to the closest beach or mountains. Take a week off and go cross-country trekking or go abroad. Traveling will teach you things you didn’t know about yourself and the world. You always talked about your sense of wanderlust, so go wander.
Sit in the sun
Sunshine boosts your body’s levels of the happy hormone, serotonin. The sun literally makes you happier. With that being said, it gives you energy. Having lower levels of melatonin when the sun is out won’t make you feel tired. You were never one to tan nicely, though… you came out burnt more often than not. Just don’t forget your sunscreen.
Have purpose
You don’t need to have a reason to do something in life, as long as you think you're making the most of it. Not everyone will understand your journey – that’s ok. You’re here to live your life, not make everyone understand. Just as long as everything you do has a purpose and you understand that you have a purpose, you’ll be ok.
Remember to be happy
Do things that you like. Be with people that you love. Don’t hold yourself back from anything. Let people know how you feel and do everything with an open heart. This is your life. You are incredible and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
