ad·ver·si·ty /ədˈvərsədē/ -noun
- difficulties; misfortune.
Adversity is a word that everyone seems to associate with a negative feeling. But in reality, it should be the opposite.
You always hear a situation happening to someone described as "dealing with adversity" and typically this is said because of their mentality on handling whatever life handed them in an impressive manner. When you look at adversity in that view, it is out of admiration, or a yearning to be like that person.
I, for one, will always admire adversity.
Although it is described as a misfortune, it will always be different to each and every person that faces it. Adversity could be anything from failing a class to dealing with an unexpected death of a family member or friend. Whatever the case maybe, that is what dealing with adversity is.
But when you hear of someone dealing with adversity, you never hear about how bad they are dealing with it. You will always hear about how impressively positive him or her has been and what they are doing to overcome the mishap.
I would never wish the worst upon anyone, but I am a firm believer in the fact that it makes you grow as a person. Growing as a person will lead you into a life of more success and happiness. The more you grow, the easier tasks become.
If you look back at events in your life, you would probably say to yourself "that wasn't that bad" and this is because you grew.
Just think, adversity as a child is being told, "you cannot do or have this." Typically a child would react by screaming and crying and thinking their world is crashing in on them. If you were muttered that statement today, you would ask politely for the reasoning and move forward in life.
This exact concept can be applied to almost anything.
In my own personal life, I've dealt with many injuries, and looking back at it, each and everyone got easier and easier.
People dealing with adversity will always be the stronger more mature people that are highly admirable. The encompass the traits you want to develop as a person and they never have a negative comment about whatever they're going through.
Adversity is a learning curve.
Misfortune happens so you can learn from it, and learning isn't ever a bad thing. So why should adversity every be a bad thing?
