Adventures in Online Dating

First off, I hope my mom never finds this article because she would be mortified to find out that her little girl was on Bumble, but here we are. I downloaded the popular app just to get some experience talking to new people before I head off to college and boy has it been interesting. So I though I would use this platform to talk about the funniest conversations and just the most outrageous things that have happened to me thus far on Bumble. And just to clarify, all names will be changed.

My first real interaction with a Bumble match was just a day into getting the app. I downloaded the app and the conversation didn't go to far and I was ghosted, however later that day a new match came up. He was cute, looked like the granola man of my dreams so I sent a message. The conversation went along the lines of,

Him: haha I love everything and I'm really hot!

Me: yessir!

(side note: im super awkward)

Him: so would you want to meet up?

Me: *Delete app

So I deleted the app and carried on with my dad, but so much still intrigued me. What if someone matches and he is really cute. What if it is my soul mate. So I re-downloaded it, much to my dismay. Still the conversations were quite bland, most of them starting with "so what are you up to", "wyd", or "haha" I made a few jokes to people here and there really just looking to see how far I could go with office quotes, but I digress. They just are not funny enough for me.

I had one match who we will nickname Will Turner. We had the same music taste, we enjoyed the same TV shows. We had great chats. I thought I might get his snap and we could stay connected. He called me cute and I really thought we might hit it off. However the boys let me down again and just left me on opened.

The boys have also been very forward which I am not all that used to. My past relationships have started very slow, so this is a whole brand new world. I got a few shirtless pics but a lot of foreheads with no conversations. I know the boys got more to say than that.

So that was my first week on Bumble. An interesting one at that as I try to flirt with guys who have way more experience me, but hopefully I will make a few friends or find the Ben to my Leslie. Maybe will I continue this series when I have more crazy stories as I get into college but for now this is all folks.

Much Love,

M. Noe

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
