The Netflix original documentary "Tales by Light" features incredible photographers in each of its eye-opening episodes. The first episode, "Submerged", follows ocean photographer Darren Jew who has undoubtedly caught the travel bug and fallen madly in love with the sea.
The documentary's crew follows his journies to humpback whales in the South Pacific and a plane wreck and active volcano in New Guinea. His words and adventures leave their audience with beautifully captured moments and an important lesson: we need to take care of nature if we want to continue enjoying it.
Here are some quotes and photos from his "Tales by Light" episode:
1. "I'm fortunate enough to have spent the last 30 years..."

"I'm fortunate enough to have spent the last thirty years of my life capturing and sharing the wonders of this planet. Of all the things I've photographed, I love photographing the ocean the most. It's my love. It's my passion."
2. "The way the light falls in the sea..."
"The way the light falls in the sea; the creatures within it. When I slip into the sea and my head goes beneath the surface, everything goes quiet and I'm presented with the endless canvas of the ocean. I've always felt that this is the place that I belong."
3. "Being in the water with a 30-ton animal..."

"Being in the water with a 30-ton animal who's accepting of you, showing you its intelligence and its interest, is really unbeatable. There's no other wildlife experience like that on the planet."
4. "Being respectful and only interacting when..."

"Being respectful and only interacting when the whales want to interact means that you're gonna get better pictures. You're gonna have better experiences. You're gonna have the time of your life."
5. "Photography has taught me to..."

"Photography has taught me to capture every creature as if it's the last; to treat every moment as fleeting. Our planet moves on. It evolves. It changes. And tomorrow is always gonna bring me something new."
6. "I've been in the water with people who..."
"I've been in the water with people who have seen whales for the first time and I think that the thing that surprises them most is the tenderness that these huge animals can display right before your very eyes."
7. "The fact that the humpbacks let us swim with them..."

"The fact that the humpbacks let us swim with them here is, to me, a bit of an indication about how happy they are to have us in their environment. And it tells me that we need to be looking after their environment as well."
8. "Without the ocean, you know, we'd lose one of the lungs of the planet..."
"Without the ocean, you know, we'd lose one of the lungs of the planet and it's a critical aspect of the whole web of life. And so I hope that the pictures that I create are the ones that will make a difference and can help people appreciate and respect the ocean. It's the only one we've got."
9. "If my images can influence just a few more people..."
"If my images can influence just a few more people to care for the nature of our world, then I feel like I've done my part."
