Adult Things You Are Probably Bad At As Told By Amy Poehler

It's so hard to adult.

Why must we adult? Can’t we just stay in bed all day and watch Netflix? These are the hard hitting questions most teenagers and a majority of college students ask themselves on a daily basis. The rough ages where you’re over 18, yet some are still under 21. I say we pretend we have no responsibilities and go back to high school because adulting is far too hard for most of us to handle. These are just a few of the adult things most of us are bad at.

1. Cleaning dishes by hand.

This is disgusting. Who actually enjoys washing dishes by hand? It should be mandatory for every house, apartment or dorm to have a dishwasher.

2. Cooking for yourself.

Can we survive off takeout Chinese food? When you cook for yourself that means you have to figure out what you are cooking and then make sure you have all the ingredients. Half the time, you forget and end up cooking whatever you have. You also have to figure out how to cook it, which usually turns into calling your mom for help.

3. Cleaning in general.

When was the last time you fully cleaned your room, let alone a few rooms? Yeah, I thought so.

4. Laundry.

It’s one of the hardest struggles. It takes up so much of your day it’s ridiculous. Forget it if you have to go to a laundromat. It becomes an all day extravaganza that involves dragging all your clothing that has piled up in your hamper into broad daylight. Whether you walk or drive, it’s not fun and it's not free. And is it really necessary to separate dark and light clothing?

5. Waking up early.

Sometimes you have to wake up early whether it’s for work, internship, school etc. Can we not and say we did? Your eyes burn and some can barely get through the day without at least 3 cups of coffee.

6. Making the bed.

If you come back to the bed later that day, why do you need to make it in the morning when you’re barely conscious?

7. Showering.

Recently, showering has become a difficult task. Time flashes before our eyes and it becomes late and you just want to go to bed. You don’t feel like getting in the shower (especially when it’s freezing outside) and you would rather just get into your nice warm bed. But it’s hard to sacrifice sleep in the morning to get up earlier for a shower.

8. Time management skills.

Do I really need to do my homework now? I just want to go out. I’ll do it later.

9. Finding a job.

We go to college to get a job. We get out of college and can’t find a job. Please send help.

10. Staying organized.

Once the semester starts, things get crazy. It’s hard to get everything together and get your life figured out. Days start flying by and next thing you know it’s the day before a big project is due. How did that happen?

11. Emails.

Emails always feel too formal. It’s hard deciding whether to sign with ‘sincerely’ or just your name or maybe something clever. No one says ‘sincerely’ in real life. It’s also confusing when you open an email with a formal greeting like ‘good morning’ or ‘good afternoon’ to someone professional and they don’t even address you back.

12. Looking presentable in the morning.

Usually, I like pushing the limits and waking up about twenty minutes before I need to be somewhere. Somehow within these twenty minutes, I think that I will be able to drink coffee, eat breakfast and figure out how to look presentable. Half the time I forget to put on makeup because that just doesn’t fit into those twenty minutes. Sleep over everything.

13. Wearing professional clothing.

Why do dress pants exist? They’re not comfortable.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
