With all of these Disney movies releasing some just stand out to me. "Zootopia" is definitely one of my favorite Disney movies of all time! As it hits Netflix in September 2016 I'd like to share a little bit about it without giving spoilers. It honestly feels like this movie is a kid’s movie for adults. It is very cute and very action packed but there are so many hidden messages about real life issues that it’s mind blowing. Disney has done such a good job with trying to inspire and inform with this movie.
Basically this movie starts off by telling the story of how the predators (foxes, wolves, etc.) and the prey (bunnies, sheep, etc.) used to not like each other. The animals used to bully each other and not live in peace and harmony. Eventually they were united to become the peaceful land of Zootopia (which is the big city). SOUND FAMILIAR?? Yes, crazy enough that pretty much screams out about race and how it used to be Caucasians and African-Americans segregated. It’s a very watered down way of giving children a little insight in history. It gives them an idea how the world may have not been perfect before, but with change it can become a better world.
Let’s talk about the main character. Judy Hobbs is such a well written character! Judy is a bunny who grew up in a small town and her parents were farmers. Since her parents were farmers, that meant that Judy was supposed to want to be a farmer as well. Our fearless character Judy did not stand for that. Her whole entire life she aspired to be a cop! There had never been a bunny cop in the history of Zootopia. The cops were typically the bigger animals and most people looked at her as “just a little bunny.” With Judy’s hard work and dedication, she persevered through her police academy and graduated at the top of her class. She had the intelligence which definitely topped the more physical features other animals had. Let’s also talk about how she was a FEMALE bunny and at this time there weren’t many female cops either. My favorite moment is when someone called her cute and she shut that down so quickly. This bunny has her sass but she wants to get her point across that there is so much more to her
There are so many reasons to love this movie it’s hard to even fit it all into one article. I’m so happy that Disney made a movie that was so relatable to our real world. I surely hope they start to make more relatable movies that will teach children and even adults lessons about life.
