Fads come into style as fast as they go out, but I am always the type to keep up with them. My theory is that they will always be back before you know it, so you might as well get with them and the times.
Over this past Christmas break, the new fad was “adult coloring books.” This sounded like the most childish thing my friends could have asked for on their Christmas list. About ten people I knew had asked for them for Christmas because they are supposed to help relieve stress. I am a very crafty person myself, but coloring was never something I found solace in.
After my boyfriend deployed a few weeks ago, one of my best friends told me it’s something I needed to invest in. So I went to our local Barnes and Noble to find the perfect book and colored pencils then was instructed to Amazon to find fine point markers.
After I had all the materials in my possession, I set aside one night to finally break in my new coloring book. I had all my homework done, a glass of wine, and I hadn’t been able to talk to my boyfriend hardly in a few days. It was the perfect night to spend alone with no distractions.
Everyone always said that they were relaxing and stress reliving. I didn’t believe it until that night. I forgot about everything that was a stressor in my life. It makes you think about what you're doing and focus on the decisions at hand. All the different colors made me feel happier (I am not one to like bright colors). In a way, you could say it forced me to step out of my comfort zone for an evening. Something I had needed in my life.
This fad may be a bit odd but I would recommend it to anyone and I am thankful to my friend that she told me about this. If you are interested in getting into these adult coloring books most any craft store is a good place to look or book store. They have different themed books from Harry Potter, fashion, landscapes, abstract designs, and many more. All together I only spend about $45.
It was worth every penny to bring a little color into my life!
