While walking on my way to class I manage to run into about 10 familiar and happy faces. Instead of passing with a typical “Hello, how are you?” or just a smile and a wave, these faces usually are charging at me with a hug to follow.
When I am standing in Benson trying to figure out what to eat in the 15 minutes I have between classes, about to pass out over the thought of all the work I have to do, I feel a pat on the back and the encouraging sound of “Hey Maggie, you’ve got this! Have a great day!”
As a sophomore transfer student, my first week at Wake Forest University was spent going through Spring 2014 Sorority Recruitment. I didn’t know a single person who was going through recruitment or who would be in the sororities I would be visiting. I felt lost, confused, and extremely overwhelmed by the different organizations on campus. Over the next few days I would find myself feeling like I was welcomed home by the sisters of Alpha Delta Pi each time I walked in through the door.
Now as a senior, I look back to my sophomore self and can’t help but love the choice she made.
As I have been in Alpha Delta Pi, I have experienced so much love and sisterhood that I could only dream about. I was shown around campus and given advice about classes my first semester as a member, and now I am meeting Alums from different chapters and making connections in the “real world.”
Some of the greatest memories I have during my time at Wake Forest University are because of my sisters. From exploring the campus late at night after subway runs, dancing the night away at date functions with amazing friends, to the occasional breakdown about whatever life has thrown my way. My sisters have been there through everything.
Now as my last recruitment comes closer, I keep imagining who will be joining my sisterhood. What other sisters will I be welcoming home on Bid Day and growing close to throughout the rest of Spring 2016? Alpha Delta Pi has been a home away from home, a place where I have grown. And I can’t wait until I get to welcome new members into what sisterhood really means.
So why ADPi? Well, I think an easier question (and far shorter list) to answer would be why not ADPi? Because if you don’t have ADPi then you have far fewer people to love and care for, fewer events on campus to be a part of, and you don’t have an amazing group of women that you can grow with and have there for you whenever you need.
