Admit It, You Lowkey Miss MySpace

Throwin it back to the good ol days

Admit It, You Lowkey Miss MySpace

I'm not sure if it's just me, but I actually miss MySpace. No, I'm not talking about the bullsh*t modern version that Justin Timberlake attempted (but failed miserably) to make popular. I'm talking about the OG, early 2000's, digital camera pics, layout making, top 8 choosing days of good ol' MySpace. It's time to get a little bit nostalgic, so here are some throwbacks that will make you laugh (or cringe) about your glory days of social media on MySpace.

1. "Online now"

Nothing was more exciting, or nerve wrecking than to see this next to your 2007 crush's name on their profile. You know you were, like, so totally, like, excited that _____ was onilne, like, OMG you just have to leave a comment on their page.

2. Top Friends

Ahhh, nothing beats those heated cat fights because so-and-so was SUCH a bad friend because she didn't put you first in her top 8 BFF's. Like... how dare she, after you went through all that trouble of making her layout for her.

3. Mirror pics

Before selfies were a thing, these babies were around. I honestly don't think I could walk past a mirror in 2009 without duck-lipping and snapping a picture on my bedazzled zebra pink cellphone. The key to mirror pics was finding the right angle, because apparently there was nothing more attractive than some overly dim lit picture where half of your face was covered by your perfectly quaffed side bangs.

4. Photo Editing...

....screw this new #nofilter crap, I miss the days of over-saturated, text-added, creative masterpieces. These weren't so easy to do people-- it's a gift.

5. Whatever the hell these things are:

Because what better way to express yourself than some bubble letter sparkly GIF with some sassy words on it. You were just sooooooo original and carefree, wow.

6. Being 99 years old

Obviously you were a rebel child and weren't actually old enough to have an account on MySpace, so you thought you would be super clever and make yourself some ridiculous age. 13 going on 99.

7. "Owning" pictures

I'm not really sure what the process of owning pictures was like... but if your best friend didn't say "ii 0Wn tHii$ PiiC!" under each and every one of your posts, were they even your friend?

8. HTML codes

I have no idea why in seventh grade I was able to memorize and repeat codes in my sleep to decorate my profile with, but in college when I have to do it in a computer class for a grade it's impossible. Needless to say, if you didn't edit your page at least once a week, who even were you?

9. Never actually writing your own "about me"

Obviously you had your best friend write your own biography because that makes total sense right? She always knew exactly what to say.

10. "Can I check my MySpace?"

The first thing you said after you got off the bus and walked into your friends house after school.

Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram are cool and all, but MySpace will always hold a place in my heart.... and also instill the fear of blackmail. If ever you're feeling down about yourself, just know you were even more of an embarrassment in 2008.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
