It has been over four years since the release of Adele's Grammy award winning album "21" was released to the public. With hit songs such as "Rolling in the Deep," "Someone Like You" and "Set Fire to the Rain," one would think that it would be very difficult to top such a successful album. In fact, most people didn't think she would release anything after "21" simply due to the fact that there was absolutely no news about her new album. However, you should never doubt Adele. In the early morning hours of Oct. 23, 2015, Adele released her first single off of her highly anticipated new album "25" and the song has everyone in the music industry running for the hills.
"Hello" is a four minute and 55-second power ballad that will make you sad when you have absolutely nothing in your life to be sad about. The same day that the song was released, the song's music video was released as well. The video, which was directed by Xavier Dolan, follows Adele in a six-minute, sepia-filtered, windy forest singing about a guy that she caused to have a broken heart. She tries to contact said man over her ancient flip phone but he just doesn't seem to want to talk. We get glimpses of this past relationship, both the good and the bad. The video ends with Adele singing her beautiful, soulful lungs out while she hangs up the phone and looks out the window, just to see her ex packing up his car and leaving Adele behind.
Before the song was released, Adele released a statement talking about why the song and album took so long to be released. She stated, "I'm sorry it took so long, but you know, life happened."
She also stated on "The Radio 1 Breakfast Show" with Nick Grimshaw that she originally didn't think the album was ever going to be released. "It was a long process and I wanted to give up. I thought I'd run out of ideas and lost my ability to write a song," said the singer. However, if you listen to her new song, you can obviously tell that Adele hasn't lost her magic touch.
Remember when I said that everyone in the music industry is running for the hills due to this glorious return? Well, that's due to the fact that the music video for "Hello" broke the 24-hour Vevo record. The video was watched 23.2 million times in the span of 24 hours after its release, a record that was previously held by Taylor Swift for her "Bad Blood" music video. Also, her new album, "25" is number one on iTunes in over 90 different countries from preorders alone.
The new album consists of 11 songs, however if you purchase the album from Target, you will receive an extra three songs to the track list. The album will be available for purchase on Nov. 20, 2015, so get your wallets ready, because Adele is back and is already taking the world by storm.
