Am I Actually A Freshman Again?

Here are some of my thoughts on my first week as a college freshman.

Am I Actually A Freshman Again?

Can you believe the first week of college just passed us by? Some of us are even on our third or fourth week. It feels so surreal. It feels like just yesterday we were all freshmen in high school and now we are freshmen in college. So many thoughts have been running though our minds, such as, “Will I make friends right away?” or, “Will I like my classes?”. Let's be real: college is scary. You have to learn quickly, and if you don't you'll be extremely lost and more freaked out than you already are.

I'll be honest, my first two nights of college were pretty awesome (considering it was the weekend). I met new people, went out, and even saw some familiar faces. But, does anyone else feel like once the first two nights went by and the week actually started, you didn't see those cool people you met ever again? Same. The thing about college is you have to be willing to go up to random people and ask them to hang out or eat dinner with you, or you have to make sure to keep communicating with the people you already met. It's a big campus, so it's very likely that if you don't ask them to hang out or they don't ask you, you might only see them once or twice this semester.

Remember how scared we were to have a roommate and share a bathroom? I don't know about you all, but my fears are gone. Despite the fact that you basically never have time to be alone except between classes, and despite the fact that you have to knock on the door every time you want to shower or go to the bathroom, having a roommate is pretty great. And if you have suite mates, that's also pretty fantastic. They're like automatic friends. None of you know anyone on campus, so you have to hangout with each other. But, you shouldn't only hangout with your roommates or suite mates. You need to venture out and find friends! Once your roommates and suite mates find their new friends your going to need to find something to do. You can't stay in your room all day just waiting for them to get home because 1. that is boring and 2. that is super unhealthy.

Are you still feeling self conscious about the "freshman 15"? I'm not, and you shouldn't either. The gym here is actually amazing. I look forward to going to it everyday. And if you're a dance major like me, you basically work out all day anyway (ha!). With walking around campus, taking the stairs instead of the elevator (come on just do it), and eating healthy instead of junk everyday you should be okay. But, you HAVE to eat. Don't skip meals to nap or anything else, or you will feel so fatigued, especially if you plan on exercising everyday.

I don't know about you, but I'm excited for the next four years of college. We have so many opportunities ahead of us that we don't even know about yet! Get out of your comfort zone, make new friends, and just have fun! Class of 2019, I wish you the best of luck. We got this.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
