What To Do On A Rainy Day

Why go outside and do anything when you could just stay indoors?

The seasons in the Ohio River Valley are seriously screwed up. During the course of February, we experienced enough snow to cancel school, sunny spring-like days, and flash flooding on a regular basis. Now, as March has rolled around, we are once again greeted with grey skies and a downpour of rain. And, if we're being honest, it kind of puts a damper on what we are able to do. No one wants to do outside activities in the rain, so here are a few fun indoor activities to do instead.

1. Sleep In Or Take A Nap

Sleeping is one of my favorite things to do. If you're bored, you can sleep. If you're lazy, you can sleep. When you're sick, people tell you to sleep. I am not ashamed to admit that my bed is one of my best friends. So what better to do on a lazy rainy morning than sleep in or take a nap?

2. Read A Good Book

As an English major, this had to be on the list. It's so relaxing to cuddle up on a dreary day with a blanket, tea, and a good book. Plus, you'll be so captivated by the story, you'll completely forget about the downpour outside your window.

3. Binge On Netflix

Okay, so I would suggest doing this any day, but I'm probably a bad influence. Netflix is the best. You can completely zone as the hours go by. Plus, aren't you just dying to know what happens on "Fuller House"?

4. Shop Till You Drop

There are two ways to do this. The first involves getting out of bed, putting on pants, and braving the wind and rain to reach an actual real-life store. If you can do it, I suggest doing this one. You can actually touch the things you're buying and try clothes on. However, having to put pants on can cause all sorts of issues. So, it might be better to online shop. Plus, there's no one there to judge your $150 credit card charge.

5. Study, Study, Study

We're in the middle of midterms, so this had to be on the list. Go to the library and find a quiet corner. Or sit next to the window at your local Starbucks. Whatever you do, get your study on so you can fill up your blue book and kick your midterm's ass.

6. Play Video Games

I have been known to play a few video games when I'm not willing to let the rain ruin my hair. It's embarrassing, but I'm addicted to "Epic Mickey." You run around painting things, and it's easy to control. Why wouldn't I want to spend my rainy day with Mickey and friends?

7. Teach Yourself To Cook

I think I know how to make two actual meals and one of them is spaghetti - without the meatballs. One of these rainy days, I want to either take a cooking class or teach myself how to cook. Pinterest has recipes that make your mouth water, and this way I won't get food poisoning.

8. Clean Your Room, Or Dorm, Or House

Stop worrying about tripping over your clothes and shoes when you're walking through the room. Cleaning while raining will actually give you time to get stuff done. I know it's not likely, though, with everything else there is to do.

9. Get Your Craft On

Again, Pinterest is key. There are so many DIY projects I want to try. And the rain gives me a chance to do it.

10. Hang With The Squad

This is my absolute favorite thing to do when it rains outside. You can talk, play games, or just chill. You can even do all the other things on the list with them. And if you can't Netflix binge or force them to help clean your room, what are friends for?

11. Bonus: Splash In The Puddles

I know it's outside, but it's just so fun.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
