One afternoon, I was watching one of my favorite Youtubers. She gets to travel the world, and she is an inspiration to me because of what she stands for. In this particular video, she was telling her viewers that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. So, I went on AirBnb and checked prices for rooms in Los Angeles. I called up my best friend and we set up our train ride (we wanted to ride a train because it was more scenic). She wanted to surprise her boyfriend with this trip since it was his birthday. We were really excited, and we were actually going through with it. Little did we know, we were not as prepared as we thought.
As it turned out, about an hour after we had booked everything, we discovered that the "train" was actually a 28 hour bus ride. We should have known--it was too cheap to be true. The worst thing was, it was non-refundable. But, we were slightly okay with it. "It'll be a good experience," we figured. We were kind of scared though. There are some horrible stories about creepy people on bus rides, and we did not want to end up being one of those stories. We figured we'd be okay, and if anything were to happen we'd figure it out. The bus ride itself was okay; it got a bit boring at times, but it was not too horrible. I just napped a lot, listened to good music, and talked to my friends. I'm writing this on the bus right now; it's crazy how drastic the difference is in the social atmosphere of the bus is compared to a plane. People interact more, having conversations as if they have known each other for a long time. I even overheard someone saying, "I'm so glad we are talking, you really are making time fly by," then they continued talking about how one of them just accepted a new job in a different city.
I guess the point of this article is that sometimes things do not go the way you would expect them to, and sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone, but that only allows you to grow more as a person. Riding a bus for 28 hours with a few breaks in between really isn't as bad as we thought. You get to spend a lot of time with yourself and your own thoughts. I'm finishing up this article as I sit with a towel wrapped on my head on my AirBnB queen-sized bed. We are able to go and explore what Los Angeles has to offer. So, yes, I am glad we took this trip, the 28-hour ride was worth it.
