My Road To Accepting Acceptance
Where to Go

Who knew that this one seemingly simple concept would be so hard to do and so difficult to feel. Acceptance comes so easy to some people, and others, such as myself, deal with it as an everyday battle. The first step to dealing with any major issue in our lives is to begin to accept what is happening as it is. We can’t sugar coat it or look to make it all better with a snap of our fingers. And although this seems as though it is obvious, we too often get caught up in the “what if’s?” and the “how come's?” We lay in bed at night and think of all that could go wrong rather than all that could go right. I feel that this is very common thing to happen in today’s world and it is a struggle that people too often face.

The perception of the difficulty that people are feeling is all relative. While some may feel that a broken nail is cause for major concern, others may feel that failing a test is much worse. Whatever the issue, it is all relative. A true sense of understanding comes from when we have the ability to accept that what others are dealing with may not be the exact same thing, however the associated emotions and feelings can look the same. This is similar to what we see in mental health. As I seemingly always fall back on, anything can be applied to mental health which is why I enjoy understanding it. Mental health is often about perceptions of reality and figuring out if what you are physically feeling is an actual realistic depiction of what others feel in society. The problem again comes to be that people don’t take the time to realize this perception of a feeling or concern. We are all holistic individuals that need to be fully looked at and have our minds fully explored. There is never just one answer, there will always be an alternative to look for and explore.

So, in saying all of this, when we begin to tackle the problems in this crazy world, we need to remember that we should accept it for what it is and then have the rationality to see that you are moving on from it. We also need to realize that this is a true progression of who we are and in how we handle things. We have made it through many problems in our lifetimes, and when we fully except that this is what we were meant to handle, a lot starts to make sense and a lot begins to just fall into place. I could not be more thankful than for this term of acceptance. Besides it just being a nine-letter word, it is an encompassing idea that governs many aspects of our world. Taking that extra moment to truly realize that the idea of acceptance is worth it will make a world of difference in our daily lives. Never forget the situations that made you who you are today. You are strong no matter what anyone says, and you are doing a great job no matter what anyone says. Live your own emotional truth and don’t let the clouds of negativity affect your perception of perfection.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
