Finals are quickly approaching somehow. I feel as though we just started the semester and now we're on a downhill slope all the way to the finish line. I know you may feel stressed, exhausted, and broke - but have no fear, the end is near. Check out a few of the things the SMC Odyssey team absolutely needs to survive finals week. Hopefully our ideas will help you make it through too!

1. Coffee

...and more coffee. I'm not just talking one cup a day, keep them coming.

2. A Netflix account

Use your Netflix account appropriately: study breaks are okay, binge watching when you should be writing a paper are not.

3. Sleep

Never underestimate the importance of sleep! I know sometimes it's easy to stay up all night and power through, but sleep is just as important as food and water in this bleak week! Take a power nap during the day and wake up refreshed and ready to get more things done.

4. A cute animal

Whether it's your adorable pet kitten, or the cute puppies at the mall, playing with an animal is one of the greatest forms of stress relief. Honestly, even looking up cute puppy videos on Instagram works too.

5. Mood Spotify playlists

Whether you're into classical music, pump up jams, Christmas music, or today's hits...find what works for you and let it motivate you rather than distract you.

6. Comfy clothes

I'm a big fan of fuzzy socks, oversized sweatshirts, and leggings. Don't worry about your fashion this week - no one is going to judge you based on your appearance.

7. Snacks

Please give me all of the snacks. Healthy or not, it's great brain food.

8. Late night study sessions

Don't worry, you're not the only one grinding away into late hours of the nights. Hang in there and know that the end is near! You can do it!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
