The ABC's of Mercyhurst

A: Apartment Life

Getting your own on campus apartment is a rite of passage after completing freshman year in a crammed dorm room.

B: Beautiful Campus Setting

Whether it be rain, shine or snow, Mercyhurst is scenic year round. (Pro tip - if you want the best views of the lake from campus, go to the sky bridge between the library and Intel building.)

C: CVS

Since it is only a few minute walk from campus, there is a good chance you and your friends have made late night runs for snacks to the Pine Avenue CVS.

D: Dog Days in Garvy

Seeing a dog on campus can make your day. Seeing several dogs is enough to get you through the week.

E: Education

The real reason why you came to this school.

F: Free T-Shirts

There is a 4/5 chance that any campus activity you attend includes a free t-shirt. And what to college students love more than free shirts?

G: Ghost Stories

Mercyhurst is home to some pretty spooky history. Going on a ghost hunt is necessary during your four years here.

H: Hurst Day

No class, free food, games and bounce houses. 'Nough said.

I: "Intel Building"

Let's be honest who even calls that building the Center for Academic Engagement?

J: Jackie

Head honcho of The Laker and master of Thursday wing night.

K: Knowing Everyone in Your Department

Small class sizes guarantee you'll not only get a better learning experience but you'll also get to know your class mates well.

L: Louie the Laker

Before there was Luke the Laker, there was Louie who tragically died in The Laker flood of 2015. RIP to the old Mercyhurst mascot.

M: "Mini" Semesters

Why is this a thing? Nobody knows.

N: Never Feeling Lost

Mercyhurst is a pretty small campus so it is nearly impossible to get lost. This also makes getting to class when your running late pretty manageable.

O: Old Main

The first place you see when you pass through those gates.

P: Presque Isle

Although this isn't technically on campus, Presque Isle is the perfect off-campus get away during the warm weekends.

Q: Questioning why the Bells have to Ring Early in the Morning.

8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M.. Every. Single. Hour. Every. Single. Day.

R: Rhonda

The queen of Egan/Grotto Commons who manages to know pretty much everyone's name on campus. This woman is an MU favorite.

S: Spring Fest

Before you cram for finals you might as well enjoy a nonstop weekend of partying and music.

T: The Stone

The real reason why you missed your Thursday 8:00 A.M..

U: Unique Travel Opportunities

You probably don't know many people who have the chance to go to the Galapagos Islands, Cuba or spend a semester in Ireland.

V: (President) Victor

The man with the really nice car who happens to be in charge here.

W: Winter

Erie winters are a special type of hell that make walking to class practically impossible. However it is always a nice surprise to wake up to a cancellation or spend the afternoon sled riding with friends.

X: eXperience

Mercyhurst does its best to make sure you get experience in your desired field and learn as much as possible.

Y: Yes, I want Fries on my Sizzle Steak Salad.

Why is this even a question??

Z: Zurn Lab Cats

You may or may not know that the basement of Zurn is home to several lab cats that you can visit when you are missing your pets from home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
