'A Star is Born' Is A Genuine, Nickolas Sparks-esque Love Story

The amazing love story has been told multiple times through a few remakes, but this is the best version yet. Bradley Cooper stars as Jackson Maine, a country artist with an alcohol and drug addiction. Lady Gaga, stars as Ally, the artist Maine discovers in a bar and pushes her to sing with him.

"A Star is Born" resembles a Nickolas Sparks love story, but with a genuine, sentimental, and realistic twist of the entertainment industry's love scene. The screenplay revives the old traditional love story with the implication of today's cultural norms and pressure of becoming a star.

The movie is electrifying and engaging in its entirety. One is able to develop compassion for "Jack" and Ally throughout the movie as the closeness of stardom and songwriting slowly bring them together and then derailing them in the end.

However, one remarkable element is seeing Lady Gaga in a natural state. Rarely does the public see Lady Gaga without wigs, colored hair, or a variety of unique costumes. "A Star is Born" offers the audience to see Gaga on a personal level with her natural, brown, hair color, and wearing ordinary clothes. Of course, this is until "Ally" or Gaga becomes a sensation and switches to pop to represent the current cultural climate. She then dyes her hair orange and begins practicing pop dances for her tour.

The emotions for the audience run high for Cooper and Gaga because of their automatic connection and inseparable relationship on screen. It is only because of their closeness that the movie is so strong. At times, I wondered why they were not a couple in real life.

With Cooper's directing, shows the world how he sees romance, intimacy, and connection with a partner. Cooper portrays himself as confused, conflicted, and rough around the edges with the possibility of romance intertwined. His directing not only reveals a little of Cooper's personality, but his creativity in filmmaking. He not only directs the movie, but does it while he is in the scene. Cooper also includes his dog in the movie too. Cooper told People magazine on the red carpet before the premiere in Los Angelos, "[Jackson and Ally] don't have a child together but they have a dog together, and I wanted it to be part of their story. I love dogs."

In addition to Cooper's direction, Lady Gaga wrote with Mark Ronson, the main theme song for the movie, "Shallow." The song represents breakout star lyrics such as:

[Verse 1: Bradley Cooper]

Tell me somethin', girl

Are you happy in this modern world?

Or do you need more?

Is there somethin' else you're searchin' for?

The movie includes reminiscent songs from the album's soundtrack set to come out on October 5, while the movie is set to hit theaters, Thursday, October 4.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
