Getting through the last couple of weeks of the semester can be really difficult because time seems to be moving painfully slow. You’re sleep deprived, hungry, probably sick, tired of doing homework, worried about grades and just overall stressed. What a fun life to live, right? Here are my 9 tips for survival. This struggle won't last forever; it's just temporary.
1. Make sure you get plenty of sleep.
Try to get 6-8 hours of sleep a night and not 5 or less. Sleep is so important; I cannot stress this enough!
2. Watch what you eat.
Try to stop eating junk food, even though everything you’re surrounded by isn’t exactly a healthy option; try to eliminate the grease factor. If you eat salads, sandwiches, veggies and fruit you’ll feel more energized to get through your day and to stay awake.
3. Take study breaks.
I think this one is simple: try not to overwork yourself. Let your brain take breaks. You're in college to get an education to get a degree to benefit yourself in the future. Relax.
4. Use colors in notes.
I’ve always thought that notes in a black pen are boring to look at and just in general hard to learn and study from. If I write in different colors or highlight in colors, then it’s bright and interesting and that helps me stay focused. I think this is more of a preference depending on what type of learner you are.
5. Chat with someone.
While you’re studying your life away, make sure you stay connected with the real world. Talk with your grandma, your mom, your best friend, your roommate or whoever it is that you want to rant to about life, do it. You’ll feel better afterward.
6. Make a checklist.
I love making lists! To do lists, grocery lists, homework lists, etc. It can be overwhelming to see a list of everything you have to do, but then it’s rewarding at the end of the day to see everything (or almost everything) checked off.
7. Remind yourself of how much you've accomplished.
Yay, you’ve survived another semester of college! That’s a huge accomplishment, you studied hard, you did your best and you didn’t give up.
I'm so proud.8. Reward yourself.
Tell yourself, “if I do really good in class today or if I get an A on this assignment then I’ll reward myself with _____”. I like to reward myself with a Starbucks drink a couple times a week. It’s always great to bribe yourself just for showing up to class sometimes.
9. Be optimistic about next semester.
If you’ve had a rough semester, be positive about the next one. You won’t have the same boring professor twice, hopefully. You’ll be in different classes with different professors and different students. Think of it as a fresh start, you’ll be thankful.
