When I was in elementary school, all I wanted was to grow up. I wanted to have responsibilities and I wanted to be able to make most decisions for myself, without my parents having to make any for me. No matter how much progress I think I have made while growing up, I still fall back into my childish ways. Am I 8-years-old or 18-years-old? The truth is is that I can never decide. For those of you who contemplate such a question as to whether you are a child stuck in an adult body, here are some things to keep in mind. Bonus points if you are a short person, since chances are, you actually look like you are a child and not an adult.
1. You off the kids' menu at restaurants.
Let's be real here, you can never go wrong with ordering food from the kids' menus at restaurants. "May I please have two orders of the kids' mac & cheese?"
2. You need someone to make decisions for you.
Making decisions is such a struggle. Especially being a college student, you now have the power to make decisions for yourself that you may or may not have been able to make before. You are used to having your parents make decisions for you. "Do I want to eat pizza for dinner? Or salad, or both?"
3. Your friends are more like your "other moms."
Taking care of yourself is definitely categorized as a not-so-simple task. It's nice to have friends, well, more like other "moms" that you can always lean on. Friend, mom, different words, same thing, you know?
4. Old Disney Channel and Nickelodeon TV shows and movies are your guilty pleasure.
There is nothing better than watching reruns of "Hannah Montana," "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody," "Drake and Josh" and "Zoey 101." These are just a few of the many TV shows that we spent our childhood keeping up with. All of the characters in these shows were some of our best friends. We felt ourselves getting involved with the characters' drama, no matter how cheesy it was. And to this day, we still keep up with it.
5. You still take naps.
As a child, I was very stubborn and I did not want to go to sleep whenever my parents ordered me to. Nowadays, I will take up any opportunity to take a nap.
6. Disney World is still your favorite place on Earth.
You may try to act cool when your parents tell you that they are planning a family trip to one of the Disney theme parks. Deep down inside, you are grinning like a child on Christmas Day, while you are containing your excitement about going to the most magical place in the world.
"Can't wait to take selfies with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse!"
7. You still have that one stuffed animal from your childhood that you cannot live without.
Whether it's a teddy bear or a baby blanket, this item has never left your side and it is one of the most cherished possessions in your life.
8. Jumping on trampolines brings out your inner child.
Plus, it's also a great workout!
9. You sit at the "kids table" at family gatherings.
Even if you're the 19 year-old in your family, your relatives still consider you to be "the child" in your family.
No matter how much you age, you truly cannot escape your childhood. Whether you like it or not, you will always be a child at heart.
