Give me an internet connection, a Netflix account, a nice bed to lay in, and you won't see me for days. Netflix can almost literally take over your life, but I absolutely love it. No longer do I have to watch commercials, wait a week or months for a new episode. Instead, I can spend hours watching episode after episode of nearly every good show on television. I have come to terms and learned to accept that I have an addiction, so I figured I would shed light on what it's like to be a Netflix addict or point out some things to those of you who are right there with me.
1. The horrible pilots you have to get through for nearly every show.
Let's face it, the first three episodes of nearly every T.V. series drag on for ages. You are just getting accustomed to the storyline, the characters, and the overall 'vibe' of the show. But you push through cause you hear it gets better. This is probably the second hardest part of watching a series.
2. The struggle and debate you go through during the last season and last episode of your favorite series.
This is what I call, Post-show depression. Once you're in love with a show and plan your days around watching the series, when it ends it is indeed a tragedy. You think no show will ever compare to this one. Sometimes, you'll even restart the show just because the characters feel like your friends and leaving them behind just isn't possible. Either way tears are usually shed.
3. Waiting for a the new season to be added to a show is the worst.
These days series end with the worst cliff-hangers and you have no choice but to wait until the new season is added or to do the unbelievable and watch the show live on T.V. waiting week after week per episode. Or worse waiting for Netflix to put up new seasons for their own shows House of Cards or Orange is the New Black. You don't even have the option to struggle through watching them each week.
4. When Netflix asks if you want to “Continue Watching" and you become personally offended.
After binge-watching for a couple hours, Netflix will ask if you want to “Continue Watching." Of course you want to continue watching, you've been watching for four hours already why would you possibly stop now.
5. When you remember you have homework, but the season finale makes it impossible to stop watching.
You always tell yourself starting out that you'll only watch one episode, but four episodes later you realize there's an essay due tomorrow that you should probably start on. But, even then you say just one more episode.
6. When the WiFi cuts out during the middle of a show.
Being on campus, the WiFi is always down, and when you're in the middle of an intense episode of One Tree Hill this is probably the worst thing that could possibly happen. Sometimes Netflix will even lose your place in the episode and let's be honest that is never okay.
7. The struggle of trying to find a new show once yours ends.
You ask all of your friends, “What should I watch next?" And they usually reply with shows you've already watched
8. When the characters become more of your friends than your real-life friends.
You spend hours watching the show, of course, the characters feel like your friends
9. When you realize Friends is now on Netflix.
The mini panic attack you had once it was revealed that Friends was added to Netflix. This had to have made your year. It definitely made mine.
Netflix will always forever by an addiction of mine and obviously many others. Nothing beats binge-watching a series on a quiet Sunday or when you're sick in bed. But I will gladly stand up at a Netflix Anonymous meeting and admit I'm addicted to Netflix.
