We all do it. We avoid our responsibilities by diving into a Netflix series. Your life becomes wrapped up in the characters and their troubles, quirky characteristics and dramatic relationships. There are three stages to the vicious cycle of Netflix binging:
Stage 1: Starting a new show.
You either spend hours searching for a show you might like, pick a show because your friends keep telling you that you HAVE to watch it, or maybe you just clicked on something Netflix recommended for you. You start the new show, and in the first few episodes you either really love it from episode one, or if you're like me, you feel like it'll never be as good as the show you just finished.
Stage 2: Sleep? What's that?
This is the phase where you are completely consumed. You may have an eight-page paper due in less than 48 hours, but finding out who Gossip Girl is or whether or not Pam and Jim end up together is way more important. You crave watching the next episode of the show you're watching like you crave Chipotle or ice cream. You watch an entire season in one day and feel no shame. You look up at the clock and you realize it's 3 a.m., and you also realize that the last time you got out of bed, the sun was still out.
Stage 3: The end.
The end is inevitable. It takes you a week to finish the last two episodes because you just can't bear the thought of logging into your account and not clicking on "Continue Watching [insert show here]" again. After you finally finish the last episode, you're either crying or staring blankly at the screen. You then go back to stage one and the vicious cycle repeats...
