9 Things University Of South Carolina Students Are Thankful For

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I took some time to think about the things that I am thankful for. Immediately, I thought about how grateful I am to be a student at the University of South Carolina. This blessing however, goes far beyond the fact that I get to attend such a great school, but also that I get to be surrounded by so many amazing things everyday here at USC, and I know I'm not the only student here who feels this way. This university deserves a huge "thank you" for giving its students such wonderful people, places and things to be thankful for.

1. The Horseshoe

The Horseshoe is one of the most photographed and charming places at the University of South Carolina. This legendary area on campus has brought USC students an amazing place for graduation pictures, hanging out between classes and just admiring the beauty it has to offer.

2. Darius Rucker

Ever since Darius and his band "Hootie and the Blowfish" began singing to Carolina students in the 80's, the country singer has won over the hearts of us all. Darius Rucker makes regular appearances at football games here at USC and even performed free concerts for students in the past.

3. Five Points

Whether your shopping, eating or letting loose downtown, Five Points is many students' greatest treasure here at Carolina.

4. Game Days

I can say with full confidence that there is nothing better then a Carolina game day. From tailgating to hearing Sandstorm blast through Williams-Brice Stadium, students here at USC are beyond thankful for Carolina football and the game day experience that comes with it.

5. The Vista

The Vista is responsible for feeding Carolina students delicious food when they want to splurge on a nice meal, or when parents come to town and are buying our dinner.

6. The River

The University of South Carolina is conveniently located along the Congaree River, making it a popular destination for students to relax and enjoy the scenery that the river has to offer.

7. Will Muschamp

Slowly but surely, Muschamp is making USC great again, and every Carolina football fan is grateful for that.

8. Colonial Life Arena

The excitement of Carolina basketball would not be possible without the Colonial Life Arena. USC students also have the Colonial Life Arena to thank for many of the concerts they attend.

9. Thomas Cooper Library

This destination might not initially seem like a Carolina student's favorite place, but deep down, students here are grateful to have a haven like TCoop. Where else would we go when we need to pull all-nighters for studying and cry with our classmates about the stress of college?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
