They say that college is the best four years of your life. I’m almost halfway through and so far I believe that it is true, college is the best years of your life. Honestly, nothing compares to having no rules and doing what you want when you want to. So what is the social scene in college all about anyways? Well, for underage kids it’s frat parties and for the legal ones, it’s a constant bar crawl.
There are many stages of attending frat parties. By stages I mean the difference between the beginning of freshman year all the way until the end of your senior year.
1. Beginning of Freshman Year
Syllabus week you go out and explore every frat and by the end of the week you’re able to figure out the one is going to be your new home every weekend. Frats are a big deal, okay, there’s loud music, free drinks and cool party lights that look great on Snapchat. If you were that quiet girl in high school, now is your time to shine. It's the, "I’m literally so cool that I go out on Thursday nights and even though Friday nights aren’t a big deal, we still go out," stage.
2. Halfway Through Freshman Year
You realize that Friday nights literally aren’t a thing and you question why you even bothered. But AEPI is still your place to be.
3. End of Freshman Year
You have a routine down by now. You know the places to pregame and the houses to always start and end at. You come home and make Easy Mac or get Domino’s delivered because there’s nothing else to eat. You’re sad the year is over, but now that you actually made a few friends, you realize how excited you are for next semester.
4. Beginning of Sophomore Year
Wow, you run this place. You know the cool houses, the addresses and have the whole system down perfectly. You low-key start to feel a little old because you’re not a little freshman anymore and no longer get the attention and meet everyone for the first time. Is it going to be like this all year?
5. End of Sophomore Year
This is the "Okay seriously, I’m over frat parties," stage. Sadly in that awkward in between of too old to be with freshman and too young to go the bars. Now what?
6. Beginning of Junior Year
You're seriously too old for this. At 20-years-old, do people even show up anymore? But, at least you're an upperclassmen, so who cares? You might as well make the best out of it. Also, can freshmen stop being such freshmen?
7. End of Junior Year
Frats used to be so fun but every house is getting kicked off and there’s nowhere to go. Maybe I’ll just pretend it’s my first frat party all over again…
8. Beginning of Senior Year
Let the reminiscing of the past three years begin. The things I would do to be a freshman again. Also, not accepting the fact I am graduating next semester. But frat parties, ha what even are those? Who even cares what house that guy is in.
9. End of Senior Year
Making the last rounds to pregame at all the frats, whether it’s fun or not. The best nights are the ones that we can’t remember. Let’s just go all out this semester, it’s our last one until we become real people and going out on Tuesday nights won’t be socially acceptable.
