Here's the deal: We're almost half way through Summer, which hurts to think about. However, There's still good news to hold on to! I've been interrogating my hipster friends without their knowledge recently, and have been spending copious amounts of time on Spotify, all to create my Comprehensive, Mid-Summer, Summer Jam Watchlist.
I'm about to share with you some songs that could crack the code and get you out of the mid-Summer-music-rut that we all seem to find ourselves in at the end of June! So have no fear! No need to thank me. I've tried to capture the taste of the general populous and have picked songs from nearly every genre. So, without further ado, here is your Summer Jam Watchlist: Mid-Summer Edition.
1. "First" - Cold War Kids
This song is a personal favorite. If you're in the mood for some bright, yellish indie-pop, this is the song for you. This is one of those songs that makes you feel the need to cruise down to the beach with the windows down, blasting this summer-jam. You're welcome.
2. "You Know It" - Colony House
Classic Surf Jam alert. This song is so hot-off-the-press that it doesn't even have a youtube video I can link to it. Colony House is one of my favorite bands of all-time, and this song quickly made it on the list! Grab a surf board and go out to flat Lake Michigan to enjoy this one if you want to!
3. "Prisoner" - Jordan Bratton (feat. Chance The Rapper)
I'll be honest, it's hard to find a song that could qualify as rap that's both summer-jammy, and also doesn't have the f-word in it. But I found this! Chance is probably my favorite rapper (I don't listen to much rap but I listen to him!). So here's my token rap song to round out the list! Either way, this song is awesome. No lie.
4. "Don't Break the Needle" - J Roddy Walston and The Business
Now, I'll give you a little preface: this song has a few... dozen... double-entendres. If references to drug usage bother you, don't listen. Also, don't listen to the radio if that's the case. However, I can't look past how jamming this song is. If you're in the mood for some killer Modern-Blues, this is it. I feel like I should be eating some Texas barbecue with my friends, playing all kinds of backyard games with this one on.
5. "No Good" - Kaleo
Do you ever get in your car, and feel the need for speed? If you haven't before, put this song on. Drive safely, kids, but jam out to this one. This one is a car chase on a chord sheet, and it's just glorious. Kaleo is rising quick in the music industry, and they just released their first full-length album. Check 'em out!
6. "Worry 'Bout Nothin'" - Keith Urban
I'm definitely not one that could be considered a country fan, and "true fans" may disagree with me on this one, but this is one country song I can get behind this summer! This song just feels like Summer. If Country is your jam, give this a whirl!
7. "Can't Stop The Feeling" - Justin Timberlake
You already know.
I don't really listen to the radio, but you best believe I'm blasting this one.
8. "Changing of the Seasons" - Two Door Cinema Club
If you're a Two Door fan, then you know this one is a little old, but a lot amazing. This song completely encapsulates a summer jam in my opinion. This is how EDM/electropop/whatever you want to call it should sound. Roll your windows down to this one!
9. "Glory to Glory" - Bethel
We'll finish off the list with one for Jesus! There aren't many songs that could really be considered summer jams in the Worship/Christian category, but I can't tell you how many times I've played this one with my windows down, and as I write this, that seems to meet the criteria. Give this one a listen (or more than a listen. We can worship Jesus in the car you know...)
So there it is! I hope these make your list! Maybe this will help you find some new bands to put in your rotation as well! Don't be afraid of trying something new! These may just be your new summer jams.
