Am I the only one who’s been keen to notice how little coverage doing good in the world gets? How my feed is taken over by irrelevant non-stories that only serve to entertain your day for two minutes or make you question the sanity of the writers at Cosmopolitan? And by non-stories, I mean stories ranging from “What did Beyoncé eat for dinner last night?” to “How Kim Kardashian is making box braids cool again”.
Has the world gone mad or are do we really not care about anything other than keeping tabs on celebrities’ lives that--put bluntly--is simply creepy and concerning?. How about finding an alternative? Choose to impact the world and become a better you. There’s only so many hours in the day, and spending the precious time you have towards meaningless and depthless things cannot and will not allow you to grow. You were given a brain and a heart for a reason, choose to utilize them wisely and to their full potential.
Here’s what you can do to contribute to help the world become a better place, and frankly remind you that despite all, there’s still some sympathy in humanity:
1. Join Peace Corps. Mercy Corps. Unicef.
2. Start your own aid relief through creativity
Many women making their mark in the world in Africa.
3. Become a sustainer for Doctors Without Borders.
Get updated on their latest news from their work in Syria.
4. Sign up for a trip with Global Medical Brigades, Habitat for Humanity, or your Church.
5. Save up money and travel on your own and get to know those that are affected by environmental disasters, human cruelties among many.
6. Go to humanesociety.org and become a part of their beautiful advocacy.
7. Read the 10 things you can do to save the ocean on nationalgeographic.com .
Also, go to oceana.org and learn more about what they do and how you can help.
8. Be more politically active, be it from watch CNN or Fox News to making your own posters on what it means to be politically aware and active.
9. Speak on the behalf of Planned Parenthood and Naral Pro-Choice America.
The possibilities are endless. The world is yours, every little effort you put in now towards something you care about or somethings you care about is honestly, truly, making a difference. No matter how small you think your effort may seem, remember even the flapping of a butterfly’s wings can crumble a mountain.
