1. If you’re walking up the Corner on an extremely cold (or hot) day, count the number of homeless people and then slip into Starbucks (or 7 Day Junior) and buy each one a tall coffee (or a bottle of water). It will cost you less than $10, and it will make their day and either warm them up or cool them off!
2. If you see a homeless person asking for food, don’t just hand them $5 and walk away, take them to White Spot, buy them a burger, and talk to them while it’s made. It will take ten minutes of your time, cost you about $4, and you will have a great conversation.
3. If you’re feeling generous, pay for a stranger’s coffee or Bodo’s. The smile on their face will be worth it.
4. You know that woman with the crutches that sits on the Corner? Her name is Pat and she loves string cheese and Coke and is always in need for the powdered aspirin that you rub on your joints. All three of these things can easily be found at Cohn’s. She is also a great person to talk to.
5. This one is simple: hold the door for the person behind you.
6. If you have an extra meal swipe to spare, and you see someone about to PAY to go into the dining hall, swipe a fellow Hoo in. You know that swipes don’t roll over between years, so why not be generous?
7. If you’re walking past someone on your way to class and you like their shirt, their shoes, their hair, their *insert any belonging or attribute*, TELL them. It takes three seconds of your time to compliment someone.
8. If you see someone running towards the bus, let the bus driver know. I don’t know about you, but when you are running towards the bus and it pulls away, it is heart wrenching and embarrassing.
9. If you are in a huge lecture hall and you don’t have a class to run to immediately after, don’t sit on the aisle—it’s challenging for people to climb over you.
I challenge you to do one (or more) of these nine things this week!
