To put it simply, dogs are wonderful. They are the best companions anyone can have. Here's a few reasons why everyone needs some puppy love in their lives:
1) Dogs are expert emotion readers.
Dogs seem to have some strange, weird knack for knowing exactly what you are feeling. Feeling sad? They slide up right next to you and plant cold, wet doggy kisses on your face. Sick? They’ll stay in bed with you all day. Feeling happy and content? They’ll be more than happy to play and goof around with you all afternoon. No matter what you’re feeling, they join right in.
2) Dogs don't have the greatest short-term memory...
We aren’t perfect. We’re all human, and we mess up sometimes. Once in a while we have a crazy busy morning and forget to fill their water bowl, or we forget to pick up more treats for them after work. But whatever the situation, dogs are quick to forgive and forget. They aren’t ones to hold a grudge; in fact, you can annoy them to utterly no end and they will never hold it against you.
3) ...but they always remember the important stuff.
Dogs will always remember the sound of your voice calling their name. They know that when you walk toward the coat closet and grab the leash, it’s time for an adventure. They know exactly when you are coming home, and are there waiting in the same spot every time.
4) Dogs are your own personal dishwashers.
Feeling lazy and don’t want to do dishes? There’s a simple solution: set your plate on the ground and let your dog work his or her magic. Take advantage of the fact that dogs will literally eat almost anything you put in front of them (and look adorable while doing it).
5) Dogs make the best workout buddies.
If you’re like me, then you probably hate working out alone. But if you leash up your furry friend and take them along with you, it’s a win-win. You get a cute workout partner, and they get some fresh air and exercise.
6) Dogs are the best cuddlers.
Nothing compares to doggy snuggles. Nothing.
7) Dogs live life to the fullest.
They have simple, joyous living down to a science. Dogs don’t let the everyday stresses of life get them down; they know that life is too short to pass up an opportunity to have fun. Raining outside? Time to splash through some puddles. Car ride? An opportunity to stick your head out the window and feel the breeze on your face. Bored? Chasing your tail provides hours of entertainment. We humans can take a cue from our canine friends. Life should be enjoyed.
8) Dogs teach us responsibility.
While picking up doggy duty in the backyard may not be your idea of a good time, it’s just one of those things that has to be done if you own a dog. Owning a dog comes with a lot of responsibilities. They need the basics—food, water, a place to sleep, and a place to do their business. But they also need to be cleaned, groomed, and exercised. All of this requires time, and skipping out is not an option.
9) Dogs are the only creatures that love you more than they love themselves.
Dogs teach us a lot of things, but the most important lesson they provide is how to love unconditionally. Dogs are not selfish; once they form an attachment to you, their loyalty is forever and they love nothing more than to make you happy. They have no personal desires or ambitions other than to love you with every fiber of their being. It is extremely rare to find that kind of dedication among other humans.
Dogs are, without a doubt, man’s best friend.
In loving memory of Lizzy Kurtenbach (1999-2015)
