Dogs can be a real handful. That is a given truth about any pet, in general. However, it is a life-changing experience to have a dog in your family. These magnificent creatures can show you a world that you may have never thought existed, whether or not it is at the expense of your couch cushions... Speaking of which.
1. They keep you on your toes.
If you don't pay close attention, everything you know and love becomes theirs, including the food on your plate. A long time ago, one of my dogs would try to take away the remote because she thought it was a toy, and another dog would rip the couch cushions apart. Make sure to keep an eye on the little tricksters.
2. They love you more than they love themselves.
Dogs are be-all, end-all players in the game of love. If there is anything I know about them, is that they will do just about anything to give you a kiss. Certainly, we like to live our lives with our dogs in mind. Every day I'm away at school, I'm constantly thinking of my dogs. Every time an instructor has asked me what I'm doing over a break, my answer remained "I'm going home to see my dogs." Furthermore, dogs show you a lot of love, so make sure that you let them know you love them right back.
3. Dogs rarely break your heart.
I think this explains it well enough. This is truly the only way for a dog to break your heart. At least they are always a great thing to come home to.
4. Owning a dog improves your health.
WebMD (Reliable source, right?) suggests that having a dog can improve the human immune system. They're known for reducing heart diseases, stress reduction, and a reduction in how many times you see the hospital. Dogs are also productive when it comes to reducing chances for babies to develop allergies (especially to dogs).
5. Dogs are very social creatures.
Dogs are also good for being the loyal beings that they are, as they have a strong desire to put themselves around other dogs and other people. This may also prove useful to you, as you can meet other dog owners and improve your social life at the same time.
If, after reading this article, you feel like adopting a dog, please consider a dog from your local animal shelter. Many are waiting for loving families to come along, and you can be the change they want in their life. Thank you.
