The majority of the population is full of some kind of animal-lover. Whether it's dogs, cats, birds, or even fish, they prefer the company of one creature or another. Personally, I'm a dog person, and for many reasons. In fact, I have prepared a list (with fun pictures so everyone pays attention) of why I believe dogs are better than any person you'll ever meet.
1. It's impossible to stay mad at them.
I'll be the first to admit it -- dogs can be a handful. They're loud, they're messy, and all they really do is eat and poop. In a sense, they're like babies (except they're softer and cuter). However, their charming personalities and endless love for you will win you over every time something goes wrong.
2. Unconditional love.
You can do absolutely no wrong in their eyes. Dogs will give you the purest and most concentrated form of love they can, and you should consider yourself lucky if one of these furry rays of sunshine choose to love you.
3. They have their own personalities.
Every dog has a different personality and show their true colors with pride. You won't find these balls of fluff falling into society's standards of what's "normal" or how to act "cool;" dogs just do whatever dogs want to do and, honestly, I'm jealous of their confidence.
4. They'll give you all the attention you want (and then some).
Dogs love to love you as much as you love to love them, if not more. As long as you don't lock them out of your room or put them in a cage, they'll be by your side 24/7. That means when you wake up, they'll be waiting for you. When you come home from work, they'll be awaiting your arrival with baited breath. When you go the bathroom, they'll find a way to open the door and barge in because they missed you. It's a blessing and a curse, but mostly a blessing.
5. They're schedule-based.
Dogs will be more on-time than your friends ever will be. Are they so schedule-based because it's something they want? Yes, but when they're that cute, does it even matter? No matter what day it is or what you have going on in your life, you can rest assured in knowing that as soon as it hits dinner time for your canine companion, they're going to know. Can they tell time? One would assume that they can't, but they still know.
6. They'll always forgive you.
No matter how many times you accidentally step on their tails, scare them with the vacuum, or put them in hideous/adorable costumes, dogs will always come back to you with ears perked up and tails a-wagging, and for that I'm thankful.
7. They're so soft.
The title says it all, folks.
8. They're easy to please.
This is my favorite thing about dogs -- you can give them a stick you found in your driveway, and they're entertained for hours. If you give them peanut butter? Forget about it! Entertainment for days for your pup!
9. They're walking trash compactors.
Did you drop a pretzel on the ground? No worries, the dog will get it. Did the bag of dog food fall over and make a big mess? Relax! The dog's already taking care of it. Did your mom make some really gross side-dish that you'd rather die than eat? The dog will take one for the team and scarf it down if you can discreetly feed it to them (if they're allowed to eat it and doesn't go against their dietary restrictions, of course).
10. Our lives are better with them in it.
Dogs are a blessing. They're in no way a hindrance, and only improve your day-to-day life. They're life-long companions who love you with all of their being. I recently lost my dog (pictured above), and a friend offered a sentiment that really stuck with me-- there's a story about a little boy who knew why dogs had shorter lives than us: He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life--like loving everybody and being nice, right?" The boy continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."
I think that story sums up dogs really well. They're loving creatures who want nothing from you but love and affection, and will give that back to you tenfold. That's why I believe dogs are better than any person you will ever encounter.
