9 Reasons You Should Set Goals At Thanksgiving

It's finally Thanksgiving! Time to sit down, enjoy some turkey and stuffing (or an entire half of a pumpkin pie...by yourself...#noregrets).

What if I said to you that Thanksgiving isn't just about the food, family, and fun? It's also a great time to set goals -- Thanksgiving is the "new" New Year's day! Hear me out. There are solid reasons for whipping out your well-used 2017 planner to sketch out goals for the upcoming year.

1. Fall is the best time for resolutions.

An article in the magazine Verily referenced a therapist saying that in the fall, our brains are naturally re-setting. We're more open to setting new goals and following new habits. Make use of that!

2. It’s almost Christmas break.

Let's be real: Christmas break is actually the best thing ever. Why not make it the best Christmas break you can by coming in strong with new habits and goals?

3. You need a revamp.

By this point in the school year, we're all dragging. Maybe you've eaten a few too many bowls of ice cream at the dining center and visited the rec a... few times. Okay, maybe you've visited once. Pull yourself out of the rut. Set some resolutions.

4. Get a head start.

An entire month ahead of everyone else and their resolutions? I think yes.

5. Change it up.

Sometimes, what it takes to commit to real change is to try something new. Like setting your resolutions in a completely different month.

6. Finish the semester strong.

And, after you set your great goals, you'll finish out the last few weeks of the semester the right way.

7. Spark creativity for the holidays.

You know that creative, invigorated feeling you have after setting new goals? Well you'll get that feeling right as the holidays hit. Boom, you've pumped out gifts for all your relatives in no time flat.

8. Reset for the holidays.

You'll be all ready to go for another large family gathering that won't be combative or stressful at all!

9. You have a default.

If all else fails, there's always January 1st.

Now go! Set goals!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
