Now, before you think I've committed the most abhorrent sin of all--hating dogs--I do not, in fact, hate dogs. I like them about as much as anyone who develops a sinus or chest infection when they're around one under certain conditions. I've been severely allergic to dogs since puberty, and it's an interesting obstacle to live with, partly because it's socially unacceptable to not love dogs.

If you're allergic to bees, no one is appalled by your aversion to them but somehow with dogs, this is not the case. People love their dogs, which is great. I love my hypoallergenic poodles as much as the next girl, but I don't know that it's necessary to bring your dog everywhere you go. Here are the most random places I've ever seen people bring their dogs.

1. Office Supply Stores

Does your German Shepard need a sparkly pencil pouch?

2. Inside Restaurants

I'm looking at you, Nicholas Cage, with your pink and purple pet carrier.

3. Bookstores

Why must you take my most prized place of solace away from me? Why?

4. Superstores

Come on, does your dog really need to go in the cart?

5. Malls

Please tell me what your dog needs at American Eagle, go on.

6. Hotels

*Hotels that are not dog-friendly.

7. School

Why did you bring your three gigantic Huskies to school? Are they taking Calculus too?

8. Coffee Shops

There's food being served! That's just unsanitary.

9. Banks

Now I'm actually paying to get an asthma attack.

I'm incredibly happy for you if you have a dog that you love like a person. Congratulations! However, if you could refrain from bringing your dog everywhere and just stick to posting cute puppy videos on Facebook, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if we're getting technical, in the case of Dogs v. Bordelove, they started it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
