Life is full of ups and downs, some of which we cannot control. We've all been there. But sometimes, all it takes is just a bit of motivation to boost our confidence, so we can see the brighter side of life. Here are some tips to help you get through life when you're feeling down.
1. Don't waste your time comparing-- you're worth more than you think.
I have to admit, I am guilty of this one too. We constantly interact with people with various backgrounds, various levels of education, various physical structures and various personalities and through these interactions some of us develop a sense of worthlessness. But don't feel like you have to be one of them. Embrace your uniqueness since there is only one you in the world. Love the things about you instead of loving what others have.
2. Let it go, don't hold it back anymore
As our beloved Elsa emphasized, learn to let things go. If your way of de-stressing is singing a disney song, or writing your stressful moments down and throwing it in the trash, or talking with your friends, or even, crying wholeheartedly, just do it. You will be surprised how effective it is. Allow your stressful moments to flood out and disappear. It will be a lot more refreshing than holding everything back, trying to suppress your stress.
3. Don't be afraid to have a you-time
Somedays you just might not be feeling it. You might not even want to socialize, because it takes too much effort. Then don't be afraid to set aside some time just for you. There's a huge difference between being alone and being lonely. And it has been proven psychologically, that being alone, the physical state of being by oneself, will help you revitalize. If your body needs it, take a break from the world and spare some time for yourself.
4. Accept compliments
It is usually women who have a hard time accepting compliments with a pleasant "thank you" since they believe that they're being too confident or cocky. So they either respond with self-deprecating remarks, or satirical comments. But seriously, it's OKAY to accept compliments, even if you don't necessarily agree with it. Others may see the beauty that you never realized was there in you!
5. You CAN make mistakes
We live in a society tainted with perfectionism, in which mistakes are almost treated as sins. However, as long as you are human, you are bound to make a mistake ever so often. And you're not the only one-- everyone else make mistakes because nobody is perfect! So don't be afraid to make mistakes-- all you have to do is brush it off and start anew!
6. Enjoy your life-- you're the architect of your own life!
Sometimes we are too caught up in life to realize how valuable it is. Do what interests you and what makes you feel great. If that means joining a dance group outside of school/work, joining an orchestra, volunteering etc just enjoy what life has in store for you and live your life! You only get to live once, so make the most out of it while you have the opportunity.
7. It's OKAY to ask for help
If you are struggling with something big or small, just know that you have friends, families, teachers and colleagues who are more than willing to help around you. So don't think you are all by yourself to face this big world. The only thing you have to do is ASK them for help. And I'll assure you, they will.
8. Be yourself
Although this statement sounds too cliché, we tend to forget our uniqueness when we are thrown into a society that urges us to conform. YOU ARE UNIQUE period. If you are the shy little student who doesn't like to talk in class, that's fine. If that's you, then be yourself. If you are super passionate about collecting anything Power Rangers, that's fine. If that's you, then be yourself. When you are your true self, not some fake replica of somebody else, you'll gain more confidence!
9. Smile
Most importantly, smile. It will not only make you look more attractive but also help you become stress-free! It's one of the easiest free health benefits, so why not take advantage of it?
Smile!
