If you're an adrenaline junkie like me, you're probably always on the hunt for new series to watch. Here are some of my favorite series that seem to fit the profile.
Heads up: There are slight spoilers in this list, as well.
The Following
Kevin Bacon plays Special Agent Hardy who is assigned to the case of Joe Carroll, a psychopathic serial killer. His kills and the entire plot falls in line with the book Carroll is writing throughout the series, from the kidnapping of his loved ones to cultist murder. Every move in this show is part of a larger plan and is filled with deceit.
Three seasons, fifteen episodes each, roughly 42 minutes each.
Broadchurch
This murder mystery keeps you on your feet the entire time. It is a short series based on the murder of a young boy in a small town, and is continuously changing perspectives as to who the killer is. When you finally learn the killer's identity, it is shocking.
Two seasons, eight episodes each, roughly 42 minutes each.
Blacklist
Hands down, Blacklist is one of the best series I have ever watched. There are sub-plots at every turn and deception within every episode. It is based on a con artist who feeds information to the FBI, in turn for special communication with one of their detectives. The entire cast seems to have deep secrets and many are exposed within the show.
Two seasons, twenty-two episodes each, 45 minutes each.
Breaking Bad
When a high school chemistry teacher (Walter White) is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he realizes he must find some way to support his family once he is gone. He results to the only part of his life that has always held true: science. By teaming up with Jesse Pinkman, a previous student and known crystal meth dealer, Jesse and Walt create an unheard of purity of meth, increasing their street popularity. Walt eventually becomes greedy, always needing more money and doing whatever is necessary to get it. He rises through the ranks to become a drug kingpin, which is followed by a string of murders that martyr his power. Does his personal desire of power overpower the need to help his family?
Five seasons, sixty two episodes total, 47 minutes each.
Prison Break
This follows the lives of two brothers: Lincoln Burrows and Michael Scofield. Michael is an architectural genius, while Lincoln is in prison for life for a murder he may or may not have committed, facing death row. Convinced his brother's imprisonment is a government cover up, Michael devises an incredible plan to try to break Lincoln out of prison, but it includes getting himself locked up and the help of their fellow inmates. They must enlist a crew to facilitate the escape and a plan once they're outside, all while staying under the radar of the guards. Did I mention they're also in an extremely high security facility?
Four seasons, eighty episodes total, roughly 44 minutes each.
Person Of Interest
When a former CIA operative pairs with a billionaire, they take it upon themselves to protect the streets of New York. With a system that somehow shows whose life is in danger, it is up to the duo, John Reece and Harold Finch, to save as many people as they can.
Four seasons, ninety episodes total, 43 minutes each.
Orange Is The New Black
OITNB is a Netflix series engulfed in sabotage. Piper Chapman was sent to prison for committing a crime ten years in the past for her girlfriend, Alex. When Alex names Piper as an accomplice, it sends Piper's world into a whirl, affecting her expensive lifestyle and fiance. At times you will be enraged and others you'll be oddly satisfied. This is only available on Netflix, and does contain a lot of nudity. Personally, this wasn't a favorite, but many people found it enjoyable.
Three seasons, thirteen episodes each, roughly 60 minutes each.
Dexter
If you don't like the sight of blood, this isn't for you. The plot is that of a blood spatter analysis working for the police, who is secretly a serial killer. He is a psychopathic genius who keeps a personal collection of blood samples from those he has killed.
Eight seasons, twelve episodes each, roughly 50 minutes each.
Sherlock
A twist off of original Sherlock Holmes stories, this series depicts two detectives, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, sleuthing through their everyday cases. While Watson looks at the literal side of things, Holmes looks at the unreasonable side, making for an interesting mix throughout.
Three seasons, three episodes each, 90 minutes each.
In my opinion, the three best shows listed are Prison Break, Broadchurch, and Blacklist. Even if you aren't normally one for these shows, take a shot at these three. They can change your perspective.
