Tired of new movies in theaters? They all seem the same now; the cliche horror, the boy meets girl romantic movies, but none of the movies are unique. Growing up, I had siblings who would watch random movies that people have never heard of rom-comedies, to romance, to dramas, here’s a list of the best movies from the 2000s that you must watch.
These were always my favorites growing up.
1. "Dickie Roberts Child Star"
Starring David Spade, this movie is about a child star who has not quite grown up and does not live the glamorous life he thought he would. He hires a family to show him what growing up with a family would be like. Of course, he is a somewhat bad influence for the kids which makes this movie absolutely hilarious.
2. "Drop Dead Gorgeous"
"Drop Dead Gorgeous" takes place in a small town in Minnesota. It is a fake documentary following contestants in a beauty pageant. There is one contestant in particular, played by Denise Richards, who tries to take down the other contestants in order to win.
3. "Just Like Heaven"
After getting into an accident, Elizabeth, played by Reese Witherspoon, is stuck in the hospital. When she finally returns home, there is a man living in her apartment. Little does she know, she's actually still in the hospital in a coma and is living as a ghost.
4. "Rat Race"
At a casino in Las Vegas, a casino tycoon manipulates six people to race against each other to get $2 million in a locker that is miles away from Las Vegas. There are no rules to the race and the tycoon, with his friends, monitor the racers and bid on the favorites.
5. "Big Fish"
Big Fish takes you back into the 1940s with this love story. When the main character, Edward Bloom played by Albert Finney, gets sick, his son comes back to see him. While visiting, his father tells exaggerated stories, like he always has, about his life. But then his son begins to understands his stories.
7. "Wedding Crashers"
Two divorce mediators Jeremy and John (played by Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson) have a hobby of crashing wedding receptions, their goal being finding women to hook up with. Then, they crash the ultimate prominent wedding but John starts to fall for one of the bridesmaids.
8. "Knocked Up"
A journalist in California has a one night stand with a reckless stoner. Alison, played by Katherine Heigl, gets pregnant with Ben's child, played by Seth Rogen. This hilarious movie shows the bumps and problems throughout the pregnancy, including if they should be together and if Ben actually wants to be a parent.
9." Norbit"
And last, but certainly not least, Norbit. Norbit is played by Eddie Murphy and he marries Rasputia, also played by Eddie Murphy. Norbit tries to get back with his childhood girlfriend but Rasputia does whatever it takes to stop him.
